I'm looking at varieties of pear and hazelnut trees to plant this spring. Current plan is 2 pear trees, probably Bartlett and Bosc, and 3-4 hazelnut bushes.

Other than existing apples trees, I'm new to this..any suggestions for other varieties or tips to growing fruits and nuts?

Barbara..
Since no one is answering your question, I will offer this (Iused to have a tree nursery).
1) When planting any tree, dig a dollar hole for a 10 cent tree, not the other way around!
2) Get in touch with your Ag Extension office for the varities that do the best in your area- usually those grown locally will do better than mail order.
3) Pears are very sensitive to when you pick them- just a little green.  To do it right, you need to measure the inside pressure of the pear- well if you are going to sell them to Dole..
4) recognize Fire blight & sterilize your pruners with 50% H2O/bleach between cuts.
Good Luck!
