Congratulations!!! There's a whole new world waiting for you to explore. Do you have any HF gear yet? If not, what are you looking at??? No HF gear yet. I'm still deciding on which way to go. What ever I get will have to be man portable and able to set up and take down at the end of the day. Access to power is not an issue. 100 watts sounds to me like a good starting point. SSB and digital will most likely be the modes I want. CW is on the list, but learning that is not a short term goal. Yaesu 817nd and an alex loop would easily fit my portability requirements and is somewhat inexpensive, but I dont think 5w will cut the mustard. For the price of a KX3 I can get more watts. Kenwood's TS480SAT is about the price of a KX3 but the wood has 100w and a built in tuner. Icom 7200 is sort of on the list, but then again its going up against the 480SAT. I'd love to try out the IC-7100 but now we are getting out of what I want to spend. So, in short I have no solid idea of which way to go.
If you were starting out from scratch knowing what ever you set up will have to be taken down at the end of the day how would you roll? ETA: thinking about this antenna. https://amateurradiostore.com/all-alpha-antennas-c-2/640m-ezmilitary-use-anywhere-waterproof-no-tuner-on-5-bands-p-181 |

Why do you need to take it down every day? What did I miss? 7200 Icom AH4 or LDG G5RV Jr for 6-40m. That would be a good start for base or portable. |
- Congrats! Hope to get you in my log soon.
