just got this in a email. i have heard about it before.

Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

It kills them because they don't have any honey butter to go with the corn bread they're making under ground....

The best I have seen work was right out of the mother earth news about 30 years ago.  Had several large red ant hills in back yard, chemicals didn't do more than kill a bunch (watched them take granules underground then realize later that it was killing them, then they would haul out the dead and all the granules they had packed inside).  Mother earth news said to take a shovel from hill "A" and sprinkle a trail to Hill "B", do the same from "B" to "A".  Make sure you get enough to start a good war, in a week I had two less hills and they did it to themselves.  Did this to the rest in the yard as well, was fun to watch also.
