the wife and i are looking at a new manufactured home. i'm thinking i'd like to put in a complete solar array. anyone got suggestions on where to look?

how much did that set you back? and how much stuff are you powering? being that we're getting a MH everything is electric. refridgerator, microwave, deep freeze, TV's, two computers, etc.

$78K with a $43K rebate from the state. Becasue of Green certificates the payback is about 3.5 years. Try a local installer, if they are reading Mother Earth News and talking Hippie, you have the right one.
Our house is also manufatured, the constructionis far superior to local stick  built, but varies by manufacturer

Until more states get on board or the feds offer a large payback I am going to have to spend my money on food and mortgage. I have been studying solar and other sources of renewable energy for almost 30yrs and just can't afford to take the plunge. I would like a totally self sufficient life style but it sure is expensive to set it up if you want to be comfortable. I lived on a 48' catamaran for 1 year and we made all our own power with solar and wind, wind being the primary source. Just couldn't find room on deck for the pigs and chickens
