I recently purchased a country living grain mill...my future step-father decided to give me a lot of corn he grew this summer but didn't like.  It is still on the cob and has been frozen.

What are some of the ways to get it off the cob and ready to be ground in the mill?

first thing you have to do is dry it and that is usually done on the stalk.
I think your corn is pretty much eating corn on the cob, but I have never tried drying it after picking so maybe someone else will chime in.

Sorry, no advice, but I would like to tack on a question.

What kind of corn do you use for drying and storing? I have grown sweet corn befre but I know this is not the right variety.

We call it field corn or grain corn, I will have to look tomorrow and get the name of it.

From what I have read it goes by many names, field corn, grain corn, and yellow dent corn...

you can go to the seed/feed store and ask for hickory cane, or hickory king.  leaving it on the stalk allows moisture to travel downthe stalk, through the roots, back into the ground.
