Welcome to the world of brass-pounding! We'd like to invite you to join The Straight Key Century Club. It's free and only takes a minute.
Besides numerous learning and practice aids, we have two monthly sprints which are basically very relaxed and low key contest-style events. One is of two hour duration and the other occurs over a weekend. See the website for details. We also have operating frequencies on each band where you can usually find a QSO with just a call or two. You set the speed and we'll adjust ours accordingly. The 40 Meter frequencies are especially popular. Start with 7.114 MHz, then try 7.120 and finally 7.055. If you need practice aids, ARRL had downloadable MP3 files: http://www.arrl.org/code-practice-files. W1AW also broadcasts code practice if you prefer to copy it off the air. We look forward to meeting you on the bands. |

... BTW, an optional 300Hz mechanical filter makes a huge difference in CW receive quality. I highly recommend it. Don't buy the 2.3kHz as it makes very little difference. +1 great advice Narrow filters are a wonderful thing good for digital stuff too. +2 YOu can't go wrong with the collins mechanical filters. |
