| Ok I am now using my laptop...yeasu 817..signalink Usb and fldigi. I have successfully copied psk31. Having only 5 watts I haven't made a contact yet. My problem is the last two times I have tried to use this setup on 20 m my waterfall is all yellow. With two straight yellow lines. No way to.read it. What have I done? What should I look at? Thanks |

Quoted: Would this be the rec on the signalink? If I lower it it just makes the yellow lighter but still a problem and a yellow screen. Quoted: Quoted: Your input to the PC is to high. Turn down the mic or line in is my guess. Would this be the rec on the signalink? If I lower it it just makes the yellow lighter but still a problem and a yellow screen. Screen shot it and post so we can see. |

Seems like your input is to high. I have an attenuator box inline w/ the line from radio to PC and I can make mine look like that if I crank it up a lot. Do you have a NOISE REDUCTION setting on the radio? On 20m I usually kick that on as well to knock down the incoming signal to the PC. |
| Usually the background should be blue. Your screen may be this way due to too much RF noise. Twisting TX know CCW on your Signalink may help. Also try turning off preamplifier on your radio. Actually you may need to turn IPO on to disable the preamp on your radio. In most cases preamp is not needed on 20M and 40, 80 and 160m bands. This should reduce background noise while preserving useful signals. |

First, this may sound lame, but it's happened to me: check to make certain that the correct sound devices are selected in Fldigi. Sometimes things get a little funny in the head of your PC and it will deselect the sound device and dump it back to default, which is usually your built in microphone. What'll really throw you is if you've actually got a built-in mic, like on a laptop, and you've got the speaker on the radio turned up because it will almost work. Assuming the first step is good to go, second step is to set the audio control on the front of the Signalink to mid-range. Assuming you are running Win 7, the third step is to go into the the sound control panel, select the recording tab, find and open the Signalink device (USB Codec), select the levels tab, and adjust for a nice waterfall picture. Use 14070KHz in the early evening because it is usually chock full of PSK. While you are in that control panel tab also make sure any "enhancements" are turned off. Once the level in the control panel is set with the Signalink knob to mid-range the knob will actually work for fine tuning pretty effectively. |
