Since its been pretty warm for the last few months, my cows have been tearing stuff up. they broke into the chicken coops to eat their food and busted two gates to get into the pig pen to eat their food as well. and yes the pigs got out, but they ran right back in without much issue. anytime I walk out to feed the cows, the bull calf goes crazy and tries to get the bucket of food from me. they have plenty of water and lots of grass to eat so not sure what their deal is. they crap normally, nothing odd that I have noticed.

any ideas?

Guessing something missing in their diet.  Maybe like 'cribbing'/pica.

Do they have mineral blocks?

Generally cows only get to be assholes when they are hungry or in heat.  I would start with a couple blocks for salt and mineral, then feed some hay as well to see if they take it.

You can not be friends with the bull calf. They need to respect, if not, fear you. Smack that cow with a shovel. I've seen this question come up more than once elsewhere and have experienced it myself. My uncle recently started doing cows and got real friendly with his bull calf. Playing with it and WRESTLING with it when it was young. They had a good time. But the thing got older and got dangerous just because it wanted to play. It got sent to market early but only after it caused some serious damage.

Generally cows only get to be assholes.....tell me about it. I'm surrounded by them - and they don't have 4 legs either!

If you have plenty of roughage you might try some molasses tubes, other than that they may have just learned to get out and are enjoying tearing stuff up.  There is an old saying "that a cow if she can't shit on it she will tear it up". A electric fence is real good at teaching manners, we use electric fences to train our yearling bulls to respect fences. Good luck!

im heading to tractor supply in a min so ill see if they have any molasses tubes. I wack that cow with a 2" pipe when he hooks the corner to eat the pig food. Ive even shot the thing with my taser. he don't like the sound of that taser clacking when it gets fired up and now runs away. ive built a new wooden fence around the house so they cant get through that, but now they jump the cattle guard. surprised my neighbors haven't put a video up on youtube of me chasing the think with my police car with lights and sirens chasing them into the field.

sometimes this is the answer.  My neighbor had one that like to break barbed wire fences, it was his son's and finally told his son that if that cow breaks another fence he was going to shoot it.  His son came and got it and he couldn't keep it in either, in the end he just made up some burgers.

Well, if they haven't, you need to!

I 2nd the suggestion of using electric
Tearing up a wood fence is fun for a bull, its in his genetics to use his head and horns for fighting
Use a couple strands of electric wire to keep him of a wood fence, buildings, etc
Give him something to use as a toy he is allowed to tear up - anchor a 55 gallon drum on a chain to fence post in the center of his paddock
He can beat this up when he needs to burn off energy
