I have been using Nosler 140 BT with 40.5 grains of IMR4985. I’m getting low on IMR 4895 and Winchester StaBall 6.5 doesn’t work well. Any suggestions before I attempt to locate IMR 4895? Im shooting a Christensen Arms Mesa 22” barrel. I’m not looking for nuclear speeds.

4064 has always been a performer in the 08 cartridges.

A lot of load data is available online. I prefer single base extruded powders, they seem to be more stable and have a large accuracy node.

Your old load is very similar to my original load for that bullet.  I eventually dialed it way back though, to 39.0 grains of IMR 4895 as it’s for an older 18.5 “ barreled model 7 with a 4x scope.   with the ballistic tip it real doesn’t need full throttle to expand and I grab that carbine for lesser distance hunts.

My other load is for the Hornady 139 grain Interbond.  I worked IMr 8208xbr between 38.0 and 40.5 grains.  Again the lower load was my eventual selection for my own reasons.



Other powders that should work well are 4350 and H4831 sc.

I had a 42.0 grain BLC2 load in my data with the Nosler 140BT but I chose to move on the less temp sensitive powders for my hunting loads.

Ideally Varget, H4895 would be on my list too.  I lean heavily to temp stable extruded powders.   If that isn’t you and like easy measure ball powders then I’d look to H414.

Ram Shot Big Game and H4350 are popular accuracy powders for 7mm-08. Big Game has been readily available for awhile.

I use IMR-4350 for 120 and 140 grain loads out of my Rem model 7.

H4350 works fantastic in 7-08. Very temp stable with medium to warm velocities. One of the easiest powders I’ve worked with for S-D’s and accuracy.

Might want to try the new R15.5 or R16 they are part of  the temp stable line from Alliant and I’ve been seeing it available.  But it’s pricey

My only foray into the 7MM-08 was using IMR 4064.  And, it worked well with Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tips loaded into
Winchester brass and Winchester LR primers.
