So after building my Maten and deciding to put the geissele DMR trigger in it I decided to finally shoot it for groups today (I have put 50 rounds downrange to tune it for suppressed). Every time I pulled the trigger I was doubling, I have the trigger set at factory settings (2.5 first stage, 2 second) and the
trigger appears to be fine so I guessing the problem is me. I have only shot bolt guns with match triggers and my guess is that I am shooting the maten like a bolt gun and only putting enough pressure to pull the trigger causing my trigger finger to rebound and pull another shot ( It happens fast! 2 rounds 1 recoil impulse). So how do you guys shoot precision semi auto rifles so that this does not happen? or do I just have to set the trigger heavier in a semi auto rifle? |
| There is very little overtravel on this trigger, almost none. I went back to the range today, stock tight on my shoulder, firm grip, but I still pulled the trigger like on my bolt gun (second pad of index finger, slowly adding pressure until the trigger breaks) which again ended up with me bump firing. I switched up my trigger pull to pulling the trigger firmly and that seemed to solve it. |
| Try taking the overtravel all the way out. I think you realize that AR10's aren't difficult to "bump fire" off your shoulder, the rifle recoils and moves rearward away from the trigger finger causing the trigger to reset and when the recoil impulse is over the shoulder pushes the rifle forward again into the trigger finger and a double occurs. The overtravel that you've haven't adjusted all the way out is probably contributing more to this than you think. As described above proper "follow though" is critical you need your finger to be at the end of the triggers travel when it breaks then you need to hold the trigger back thoughout the recoil impulse. When overtravel is present your finger is left swinging when the trigger breaks as its not at the end of the triggers travel. This makes it very difficult to hold the trigger all the way back thoughout the recoil impulse since the rifle is recoiling away from your finger and so your finger is left chasing the rifle as it recoils to get to the end of the travel. This is why pulling the trigger firmly and possibly rushing the shot is working for you. The DMR trigger is bad ass get it adjusted correctly and you're going to love it. |
