Hey guys, I was out in the desert with my .308 last weekend. We were shooting an 18" AR500 plate that I mil'd at 1000 yards. I'm shooting a 20" 700SPS with 168 Sierra Matchkings (.462 bc) at 2685 FPS. I dialed 37 MOA based on a Nosler smartphone app. I was hitting low, so I walked up onto the target with my buddy spotting for me. I ended at 52 MOA.
The app maxed out at 1000 yards. Can anybody run the numbers for me and give me an idea whether I was close mil-ing the target or a ballpark as to how far out we were shooting? FWIW... It took about 10 shots to walk onto target and then I got 5 hits out of 25 shots. I was happy since I know the 168's aren't the most stable out past 600 yards (from what I've read) and it was the first time I've been out that far. Can anybody suggest a smartphone app or a program with a bit more range? |

Based on your info, and guessing at the temp/altitude, I think you were closer to 1140+/- 20yds. I based the altitude at what should be close for 168's at the stated velocity and the drop at 1000 from your app.
Ballistic AE app Any other ranges/dope to confirm your velocity? |

I chrono'd that load. 44grn of Varget at 5,500 feet. 65 degrees.
I suppose my chrono could be off, but my .223 data has been pretty solid. 2697 2662 2659 2685 2689 2702 2681 2675 2711 2725 2673 2679 From my last outing with the chrono. ETA in the desert we were at about 2000 ft. 65 degrees F. |

You should try some 175's, even at 2600 fps you will be just above mach at 1k. |
