Appreciate if folks could provide your favorite ballistics calculator and why you like it.

It would also be useful to know how you use it in the field. ie, print out, app on phone, etc.

Applied ballistics with custom drag curves on a kestrel.  I find custom curves to be particularly important with all the new bullets coming out.

I've had the iStrelok app since it was free.

I like it enough not to switch to AB.

I like JBM Ballistics. It's free and very accurate from the years I have been using it for my match data. I print it out and laminate it for my match cards. O do 10 degree temp differences and data for every 10 yards.

Hornady is going to be offering their 4DOF program in a mobile app but not sure when but when it does come out I will put that on my phone and have it if needed.

I have to give them credit for what they have done with it.  Especially since they have competitor bullet information in that is accurate too.

My only complaint is I wish they had simple DA inputs for it.

Im using BallisticsARC. It interfaces well with a small weather meter I have. For a hobby (non competitive) I dont need to drop the coin on a Kestrel.

I have it on two Android and one Apple device, and I take weather samples just before a string.

I have BallisticAE on my iPhone. It works well enough for me, but I'm just playing around. Nothing competitive. I have a wind sock at 300yds that I use for wind since my shooting bench is fairly well guarded from the wind.

JBM and Hornady's online calculator work well for printing range cards.

As for apps, I have used the free version of Strelok for the last couple years and recently installed Shooter.  They both have their pros and cons but Strelok is pretty easy to get started with.

I have Shooter, which Brian Litz had his hand in.  It's a $10 app vs. Applied Ballistics is $30.

For a novice long range guy, Shooter has been great for me.  I don't see a need to upgrade to Applied Ballistics.  Easy to use, dope has been accurate for me

+1 for Strelok.  It really comes through as far as customization.  I wish it incorporated the phone information into the slope angle, but I am shooting 700 yards plus with three different rifle platforms, and it works like a clock.

A lot of good information here..much appreciated. I'll start researching these to see which to start with.

That Kestrel looks like a nice piece of equipment. I'll need to wait on that for some time...

AZNetEng - are you using the Weatherflow WEATHERmeter with the BallisticsARC?

Strelok looks like a good place to start. Looks like it will work with weather meter input to the phone too.

All the apps allow you to input enviromentals into them.  The best deal in weather meters is the Kestrel Drop D3.  It's relays info back to your phone and does density altitude which is a much better way of dealing it.  It is two inputs instead of four.

I've seen a lot of bad numbers come out of strelok so I don't particularly trust it.  First round impacts are important.

Yes. I bought a little 5 dollar tripod off Amazon ( the base of the meter uses the same size screw) so that it will sit on the bench or mat.

Ill see if I have a pic and will post it.

ETA: Pics as promised.

Applied Ballistics mobile. Shooter will work also.

AB mobile/Shooter is much easier to use than Strelok, I don't mean difficulty, I mean in actual use. Easier/faster to change things, switch loads, rifles, conditions , MV, zeroes alter distances etc.

I have had Strelok and Shooter(ABMobile) for a few years and play with them daily, Shooter/ABMobile is simply better to use.

Strelok has reticles, which I  have no use for.

Strelok, ABMobile and Shooter all receive data from my Kestrel via Bluetooth.

Shooter and ABMobile backup data and it works well, I  have used it when changibg phones, even custom drag curves I purchased were saved (not that they shouldn't have been).Strelok backs up too but I have not used it.

Using the same inputs results in the same outputs with Strelok,JBM, ABMobile and Shooter.

STRELOK PRO= 394.2" DROP  72"WIND 1361.3fps

SHOOTER = 394.5" DROP  71.8" WIND 1363.4fps

AB MOBILE = 394.5" DROP  71.8" WIND 1363.4fps

 JBM Bal = 394.4" DROP  71.7" WIND 1364.1fps

Thanks for the input on these calculators. I'll probably break in with a free app then move up the ladder as the situation allows.
No competitive application, just some fun distance shooting with my son.

I like Strelok Pro for Android, I just wish there was a "cloud" backup for your rifles, loads, and other data, vs. relying on periodic backups and having to export the files manually. It's a HUGE pain in the ass when your phone dies and all your data is lost with it. Happened to me twice. Otherwise, it's great. The library of reticles and factory loads is a huge plus, as is the truing feature. It was 1/3rd the cost of Applied Ballistics and handier than the others I tried.

I had Shooter but when I changed ISP I had to give up my old Gmail account so lost the ability to use the app.  Developer told me I'd need to pay again so I went with Strelok.

I used Strelok for a 1,000 yard class at SigSauer and it was dead nuts on.  I had printed out a card in the event I couldn't use my phone but in the end I just kept adjusting distance on the app as we moved back and it was perfect.  Yeah math!

I like this one, because it's the only one that gives you a visual reference for what is happening when the temperatures change.  Otherwise, you have to try to remember trends in windage and elevation changes as the weather changes.

No, most solvers account for powder temp, I don't know of one that doesn't.

Though, ballisticxlrs "app" is what I use for backup to my gizmos. I appreciate all the work he has put into it, it really works great.

I also use it. It works well enough as I'm limited to ranges of 200 yds. I'll be moving soon and range limitation will change and will reevaluate what I'm using then.
