New to precision so any help is appreciated.  What I have is a Remington 700 in 308 and my glass is a vortex 6-24X50.  What 20 MOA base and ring combination do you recommend?  I'm probably going to start with a magpul stock.  Any other upgrades I should do to start with?

You can get just about any base. I prefer steel bases but aluminum is fine. I use bases from Weaver, EGW and Seekins. For rings I only use Burris Signature Series. They come with polymer inserts for 0MOA in 1" and you can get 5,10,20 MOA inserts for it so you can dial minutes into the rings. Better though, in 30mm they come with 0MOA and 10MOA inserts so you can do 0,10,20 MOA with what's included in the package. These are steel rings and not super expensive. The best part: Polymer inserts help prevent damage to scope bodies and grip really well.

Larue 0moa or 20moa rail in short or long action

http://www.larue.com/remington-700-rail

Then the LT719 rings should fit perfectly without feeling too tall (assuming your Vortex is a 30mm tube)

And you'll get some cool dillo dust, beverage entry tool, and maybe a hat

Good luck keep us posted with your progress!

I really like the look and specs of the magpul stocks. Anyone using one already?

Anyone using 1-piece mounts like this Nightforce Ultralite 1-Piece 20 MOA?

This is also the setup I'm looking at doing. I'm in for more options. A friend of mine often times uses Talley one piece mounts. Any advantages over rail and rings? Or should I stick to separate rings with one piece rail?

This. A one piece has so many advantages.   Spuhr, NF, Geissele,  ADM, larue.

This is the option I like on my long range bolt action rifles.

I'm not a competition shooter but for my long range target shooting the Burris Signature Zee rings with the offset inserts work great for me.

Here is how to calculate the MOA offset depending upon the insert used and how far apart the rings are mounted.
