Hello,

So I bore scoped my gun for the first time ever and I just had some question.

So I noticed those rust pits in the chamber. I was already told by a friend how to get them out, but how to prevent them? Do they happen because after shooting the chamber is hot and and the air condenses?

Also, I noticed that the closer to the chamber, the grooves are darker. They become much lighter the further away I inspect and eventually they become clean. Is this normal? I suspect it is because it's very hot and the most pressure happens at the chamber but I figured I would ask in case this is something abnormal.

Pic 3: very close to muzzle. Even the copper line has disappeared and I found a toolmark https://ibb.co/yQp6YVd

Thanks

Dan

OP,

your links aren't showing your pics.  To get your pics to show up from imgbb.com, you gotta go to each of your photos at imgbb.com, right click on the photo and choose open in new tab, then copy that new tab's address (for example, your first pic would open to https://i.ibb.co/frWhpQ3/WIN-20210726-12-15-44-Pro.jpg) and post it into an image tag here.

that way you get this:

A bore scope makes things look bad when they aren't anything to worry about.
Only New unshot barrels are clean the first inches. Look for a ring at the neck, keep it down. Look for Copper after getting the black out. A factory barrel will look f'ed up compared to a match grade.
Barrels shoot how they shoot, cleanliness makes it more consistent... Knowing what it's gonna do at start through 100 rounds is the key, imo.

Im shot ibs, ubr bench rest.

Well... pretty amazing. .33moa 5 shot groups with factory ammo. Holds that on 300 yards yards as well, shot a just under 1 inch group with 5 shots..

I made some handloads once and got .2 moa, 5 shot group at 100 yards. This shilen barrel is 6.5CM.

Now I know that inside of barrel isnt the most friendly environment, but just wanna make sure that it looks pretty normal and that I won't thrash the barrel anytime soon. I never did any break-in, shot 100-150 shots through it. Those pics were taken after I gave a decent clean. Cleaned out the carbon, then ran some hoppes black label to see if any copper comes out but nothing did, so recleaned it with regular hoppes and got some more carbon out and thats how it looks.

My ruger rpr in .308 on the other hand, looks clean af. Never did a break in procedure either, gun had close to 100 shots before i cleaned it for the first time. Soaked it in regular hoppes, brushed it, pushed some more wet/dry patches and the barrel has some trace amounts of copper somewhere in the middle of the barrel. Right if front of the throat, its so clean you could eat off of it. No carbon, no copper, nothing. So yeah... just curious how factory barrel looks so much cleaner vs aftermarket ss barrel.

And for cleaning I would lose all the Hoppes. Get some better cleaning fluids. Better stuff will get that copper out and all the carbon the first time.

This kind of stuff is the reason I haven't run out to buy a borescope.  The ONLY important factor is how the barrel shoots.  What it looks like inside is immaterial

Sounds like the rifle shoots very well.

What bore scope are you using?
