I have some Black Hills match ammo for my .223 Savage, but what's an ok cheap .223 I can buy a bunch of? Something to just shoot if I not concerned about perfect accuracy? AE, UMC, Tula?

Also, I have some Wolf Gold .223, but in another thread I saw someone say it was the same as XM193(?), so would that make it .556, which I can't shoot in this gun?

Thanks

I have been using Prive 75gr HPBT for demo's I do and we shoot it out to 500 yards... it works great, especially for the cost ($.42-.45 a round)

Fiocchi produces good results for me.

Newer Savage 223s have looooooooong throats (like nearly a full a tenth longer than SAAMI long) so while Savage would tell you DO NOT USE 5.56 IN A 223....odds are extremely good that you'd have zero issues whatsoever.

I mean really, handloaders quite often run 223s higher pressure than 5.56 loads anyway.

As always - YMMV, caveat emptor, be careful, etc etc.

ZQI, $9.99 for 30rds @ WM, shoots better than some good ammo.

I think you're in the wrong sub-forum. Nothing cheap about precision shooting.

This.

I'm really confused as to what you're looking for. Are you wanting cheap precision ammo? Or just bulk .223 that will shoot? There's a BIG difference depending on your goals.

Just looking for recommendations on cheap .223 that will shoot well ( are there any that are a little better than others).  I know I'm not going to find "cheap" precision ammo.  Just if I'm buying a couple of quality levels better than Tula, what should I look for?

Least expensive would probably PPU match in either 69 or 75-77gr. Whatever they are offering right now. That stuff typically runs about $9-13 a box. Probably some discounts in bulk.

If your rifle likes it you probably won't have a problem shooting sub moa with it. It's the cheapest of the "match" ammo out there from what I've found.

Black hills blue box is a reliable bet. I've also had good luck with HPR 55gr VMAX and 75gr HPBT reloads from academy.

Ditto. In my rifle the 69SMK was comparable to FGMM in terms of group size.

ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT shoot out of my 1:8 gun. Shoots fine from my 1:7. And the 1:8 loves 77gr SMK.

OP, try to find 68-77gr, but you'll need to try it in your gun before you snatch up 1000 rounds of it.
