So I got the PST Today. I watched several videos on the XTR, and I like the XTR knobs better, but I will say I think the illuminated reticle power of the PST is better from the videos I've seen.
There are no XTR's with the SCR reticle in 5-25x50 out there for sale. I even called Burris today, He said they will be shipping out in late December. Had some issue with the new re-logoing of the scopes. IDK If I was to try to sell the PST in excellent condition with all the parts and pieces, in a couple months, and go for the Burris, would it sell for a decent return? I'm going to run it for now, who knows, maybe I like it and keep it. Just kinda thinking out loud. |

High end scopes typically retain their value pretty well, especially if it has reached "legendary" status with an almost cult-like following among end-users. I'm talking Schmidt Bender, Hensodlt, Kahles and such. Most optics available will depreciate over time, even the extreme high-end scopes. That said, your Vortex fits in the "good quality moderate budget" category. Since Vortex is pretty well regarded in the shooting community, you can expect it to loose some of it's value, but it won't take a serious nose-dive in re-sale value like a lot of cheap low-budget optics do. I would expect to lose about $150 - $250 in value in a scope like the PST, depending on market conditions and the overall condition of the scope, which isn't that bad. Look at it like leasing or buying a car. Consider the money lost as you leasing it for a couple months and then trading it in for something better. |

Bought this scope for $751.00 http://swfa.com/Leupold-85-25x50-VX-3-30mm-Riflescope-P12745.aspx This one for 400something http://swfa.com/Leupold-6-18x40-VX-2-Riflescope-P51820.aspx And I bought the Trijicon Accupoint used for $550 with a LaRue mount. |
