OK, so awhile back I posted that I was down to 3 choices for a PR. Savage LRP, RPR, and a Bergara HMR. I finally eliminated the Savage LRP. But I couldn't decide between the RPR and the Bergara. I ended up being able to find and get both with the intention of keeping one. DAMNED HARD!! I REALLY like the Bergara. Fits great, feels great. Tikka smooth action, verticle type grip fits my hand nice. But I've always wanted a RPR since they came out. No scope yet, but I did have a Burris 4.5-14 ballistic plex that I had in a set of Arms quick tach rings on another rifle. So I threw it on the RPR just to have something to aim through. Didn't figure it would be on paper but that's OK, it would still give me a feel of the rifle. Tried 5 rds. Put the scope on the Bergara. I'd bought a standard mount and installed it just for the trial. 5 rds. Now I know this isn't a great test, but should give me some comparison between the two rifles. First thing I noticed was that the Bergara had more felt recoil. Of course the RPR is heavier, but the brake on the RPR must make a big difference. The Bergara's trigger was breaking about 36-38 oz. The Ruger about 25oz. My main use of this rifle is going to be LR shooting. So it really should be about the accuracy of the rifle. Without buying 2 scopes and trying these side by side it's really hard to compare the accuracy though. I still would like the Bergara, but I think I'll have to go with the RPR. Right or wrong! I've got a guy who's going to look at the Bergara tomorrow to see if it's something he wants. If he doesn't take it, my hunting partner is trying to trade his AR10 in .260 for it. I've put 2 other guns on the local Armslist for sale and if I would happen to sell one I'll keep the Bergara. The next order of business is to get a Burris XTRii 4-20x50 to put on it and see if this thing has any accuracy! Here's hoping!

It's all preference. I have the bergara and I love it. I have handled the rpr a bunch,  and i like it.  But i hate how it's a ruger billboard. I think i counted over 10 ruger stamps on the gun.  Plus everyone has a rpr,  I wanted something a little different. The ruger does have a better trigger out of the box,  but the bergara will take 700 triggers.  So by the time you get the gun and a trigger,  you are probably still cheaper then the rpr. And I personally like a traditional stock, I'm not much of a chasis guy. The bergara did beat up my shoulder after 80 rounds (308). Then i put on a surefire procomp on the next outing and put 80 through it without a problem. I just picked up the xtr2 4-20 scr mil/mil the other day. Great scope, I'm going out tomorrow too zero it. I'm curious to see how ill shoot tomorrow,  I was able to get sub moa, and a couple 1/2 moa with a cheap primary arms. So I'm hoping I can consistently get 1/2 moa with good glass, and once I finish load development. Hope that helps.

This has been one of the hardest decisions I've had to make lately. Don't get me wrong, I love the Bergara! I went on Armslist Tuesday right away and put 3 rifles and bunch of surplus military ammo up for sale hoping to sell something so I can keep the Bergara. I almost put the RPR up for sale also and figured I'd let the market decide which one I was going to keep....I'd keep the one that didn't sell first!! But doing this type of comparison with the same scope, same ammo, same day, I was just more comfortable with the Ruger. Sure, I can put a brake on the Bergara and probably adjust the trigger a little more and honestly I've never been a big Ruger fan either. I might as well have just flipped a coin. Buying a Burris 5-25x50 XTR SCR/Mil to put on this rifle and looking forward to see if it's got any accuracy. I certainly don't need 2 new rifles, but I'm actually hoping no one wants the Bergara. Of course I won't be able to afford another scope for a while either!
