I have had a MR762 for a while now. My 2 past rifles were an SR25 ECC & APC. I really liked both rifles, especially the APC but I could never get the results down range I was looking for. Both were solid 1.3-1.5 moa rifles using both 5 & 10 shot groups of match grade ammo but I wanted better. So I took a chance and sold both. I had intentions of just picking up a MR762. This was actually prior to the announcement of the Army giving the G28E a go. Around that time I stumbled across a never fired SR9T, that I couldn't turn down. I lucked out as it turned out to be a shooter too, but that is for another day.
I saw Grafs had Lapua Scenar L 155gr bullets on sale for $299/k, so the other week I got a K. Mind you I have been getting sub moa performance with the MR762 at 100 & 400 yds using Hornady 178gr bthp match & the new precision hunter 178 gr ELD-X. So I started out with new Win brass, BR2 primers, IMR 8208 XBR & the Scenars. In my first run of testing at 100m (not yards), I found 2 charges that are looking damn promising. 42.9 gr at 2.775" was .62 moa & 44.1gr was .46 moa. Mind you this was with the factory trigger, which ain't bad, but ain't great either. I am definitely excited to see how they will shape up with a little bit of tweeking. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/91271/IMG-8661-107850. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/91271/IMG-8660-107849. I got pics to post the other day but now they wont, hopefully the links work? I am definitely liking this rifle more and more. I know it gets poo-pooed on some boards, but obviously some of them are shooters. |

Linky no worky Yeah I know. I don't get it, I've had no trouble posting pics sometimes with the format and others it is a no-go. I have nailed down a couple charges to try tomorrow and I'll get a more detailed post up then. Things are definitely looking good so far. |

I just got my MR762 last week, and here was my best group from last weekend. I tried loading Hornady 178 ELD-X's with CFE223, but they patterned out of the MR and a friends DD5.
I broke out the gold standard 175 SMK with 44gr Varget seated at 2.820 and got this group. I'm going to try the 178's with Varget this weekend and see how that goes. Attached File |

Got my scope in today for the MR, I have all my test loads ready to go, so I'll have a little more data on Sunday. Here is a look at my setup

I've done more load development using both Varget and Alliant Power Pro 2000MR. I am really digging the 2000MR because it meters amazing. Here are some of my best groups. 44 grains of Varget with both a 168 Hornady AMAX, 178 Hornady ELD-X, and a 175 Sierra Match King yielded some great groups. I plan on using this rifle for hunting, so the 175 SMK was a baseline group, since it works awesome in every .308 that I've tried. 168 AMAX 175 SMK 178 ELD-X 178 ELD-X with 47 gr 2000MR 168 AMAX with 49 grains 2000MR All groups were shot prone with a Vortex Viper 4-16x44 at 100 yards. The Varget groups were shot in 10-15 MPH winds. The 2000MR groups were shot on a calm day. I've worked up more loads using 44gr Varget with the 168 AMAX and 178 ELD-X, then 47gr 2000MR with the 178 ELD-X and 49gr with 2000MR and the 168 AMAX. I am going to shoot these once I get the permanent scope for it, which is a Vortex Razor HD2 4.5-27x56, which will hopefully be in this next week. 49gr of 2000mr at AR mag length is heavy. 2000mr is very forgiving and pressure seems linear with it, but I started to see pressure around 48.5 with 168gr SMK clones. Didn't notice it in a gas gun, but got sticky on opening in the bolt actions. Loading longer, you can go a bit higher. Overall I love 2000mr....cheap, easy metering, predictable nodes and pressure in .308, and excellent velocity. It tends to be happiest right around max. I have not tested for temperature stability yet. |

I have not tested for temperature stability yet. I'm seating at 2.820, and according to Hornady I'm about a grain under max still. So far I'm really liking 2000MR, and I saw no pressure signs on it today. I'm going to be going with the 168 AMAX's as they grouped the most consistent. I'm pretty happy with that as they are almost a dime cheaper per bullet as well. I forgot the chrony today, but next week I will get some velocities. |
