My range only goes out to 600 yards
I shoot a 18" AR in 5.56 for my long range fun. I'm currently piecing together a bolt gun for a heavier caliber that will be for some long range action but essentially used for hunting. I got 2 scopes in mind: Vortex PST 4-16 FFP MOA And Bushnell Elite Tactical G2 FFP 3.5-21 MIL I was dead set on the Bushnell, but the PST is cheaper and I think MOA might be easier for me to work with. My current scope is MIL, I don't use it to range anything, I don't do competitions yet, and it's 9 power SFP. Any thoughts, also, I shoot 300 yards and less right now mostly. |
| I have never had a Vortex but I hear great things about them and have shot a few on friends rifles. I used to have a few Nikon Monarchs and a Buckmasters, but now only have Bushnell scopes on my guns, even my hunting rifles and patrol rifle I carry every day. Glass is good for the price and they have supported me so I now only run their products. Even my wife and son have Bushnells on their rifles. I don't think you would be disappointed with either of those scopes, but the Bushnell will keep you happy for longer. |

I have owned both. I still have the Bushnell. I would also look at the 6-24ffp G2 Bushnell if you are on a budget. It is less than the Vortex and I found it to be better.
The only Vortex I would own is their top end model. The 2 Viper PST scopes I had were hard on my eyes. I would get headaches from them for some reason. I could never get them adjusted correctly it seemed. They did have good turrets and seemed to track and hold zero OK. I have been very happy with the last 5 Bushnell scopes I have got. |
| I love my bushy stuff. I still think the glass is cleaner on average on all magnification ranges than the vortex are. Ive got a 10x40 on my ar10t for mid range. 3-12 on varmint ar/spr and the 6-24 on my long range gun. Best glass for the cash. The 3-12 can be found under 700 and 6-24 under 900 and both ffp. My nf still is better but at twice the cost. My bushnell have always been durable too. |

Quoted:
I am so completely satisfied with Leupold scopes and customer service I would not consider anything else. Tried others, and then wised up. I have many Leupold scopes and am "satisfied" with their quality at their respective price point. Some are superb. Others usually good value, but not necessarily the top of their comparable group. I also consider their customer service (used only once in over forty years to quickly repair my own damage) to be very good. Yet, there are scopes that can exceed the best that Leupold has to offer and are equally reliable, if not moreso. Really, COME ON, are you serious? Not consider anything else? Not even a Kahles Helia, Zeiss Diavari Victory, S&B or Nightforce of any kind or sort? That kind of blind reasoning is not worthy of ANY brand. |
