I have completed about 150 rounds of ammo in the past week and ran into a !!. Randomly, my sizing/decapping die decides to let the spindle be pulled out on the downstroke of the press. Hell, I even went and bought a new .308 die today and it did the same thing. I have no clue what's wrong, but it's pissing me off. Set it up just like instructions say and just as I did the first time before decapping/ sizing 150 rounds, but it doesn't seem to work. Every forum post on the internet just becomes one big debate on what line to use and how much. If I wanted a debate on lube I would join a XXX site! What the hell am I doing wrong? Followed all the directions, spray lubed, rolled, lightly lubed, heavy lubed, I have done it all, but nothing has worked! The only thing that makes sens to me is I have something setup wrong (again, followed directions and watched about every YouTube video I could find.)

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

Are you saying the decapping rod is being pulled out of the die. If so, I assume this a Lee die set, if it is a lee die it sounds like the collet/nut that secures the decapping rod is not tightening down enough to hold the rod securely. Tighten the rod in place, mark the location-say put a mark at 6:00 on die and nut and also a horizontal marking how deep into the die it goes- now unscrew it remove the rod and thread it back in without the rod, it should thread in past your marks by at least a 1/4-1/2 turn. There may be slits that allow the nut to squeeze the rod, make sure those are open, check that there are no burrs anywhere.

I suppose another thing could be the die is way oversizing the neck making it more difficult to pull the expander back through and add a little more drag to the issue from not lubing the ID of the neck. With the decapping rod removed size a case measure the neck OD compare it to a loaded round(same headstamp and number of loadings) neck diameter if you have more than .010" difference your die is sizing the neck more than needed which cause more force to pull the expander through especially if your necks are dry.

Did you clean your die before use? Are you lubing inside the case mouth?

Bullshit, I have been using it for nearly 20 years. You just have to read and comprehend the directions.

They do not call it Hornady 1 Stuck for for nothing.  Ah, yes!  If people would read the directions.....  UGH!  Me man! Who Needs Directions?

The problem is that HOS is a poor spray lube -  Dillon Spray lube works best.

HOS is really only good for one thing.....a light mist over each batch of brass fed into a case feeder!

do you have the de-cap pin set out just far enough to pop out the primer,  leaving you as much thread as possible.

when you say the spindle,  are you talking about the threade end at the top of the die, or the connection at the de-cap pin inside the die. Anyhow adjust the die in as instructed, then thread in the decap rod down to the point it just pops out a primer and while its in this position, meaning the decap pin still in the the flash-hole lock every thing down.  Hoping you've already got it figured out, if not hope this helps some.

Hornady die and Hornady press. Just went to the store and got Lee casing lube, as well as Dillon. I'm an hour and fifteen minutes from the Hornady factory, so Hornady dominates the shelf in the local sports stores.

The part that baffles me is the fact that I set the die up 4-5 times prior with no problems. I have set up the die according to the instructions with the decapping pin sticking out 3/16" (or whatever the instructions call for.) I've decapped/resized 150 rounds, but suddenly it doesn't work! Yes I was using One Shot, but we will see if this lube debate is the real deal.

When I say spindle I mean the threaded rod that runs through the die and attaches to the resizing unit that houses the decapping pin

No worries, figured it out. Took a pair of channel locks to the collet and viola! Just a little extra tightening and it worked out well! Cranked out 50 rounds this evening and am much happier!

Again, BS. I have sized tens of thousands of cases with One Shot from .223 to 300WM and never a stuck case. I follow directions and allow the propellant to dissipate. Works just fine.

One Shot works just fine.  I have used it quite a bit over the years.  I do prefer the Dillon spray lube but it isn't available locally so I use what I can get.

Bought some Dillon and Lee lubes. I really like the Dillon stuff! I'm kind of a hippie (got to be when it comes to chemicals these days) and that stuff isn't too harsh, just rubbing alcohol and lanolin. Plus it washes off easy.

There's often a narrow balance between "loose enough to give way before breaking" and "tight enough to not work loose during use".

You now know there was NO lube issue and that Hornady OneShot works perfectly fine . . . for that matter so does 5w-30 synthetic oil lol. Hornady wax, Unique or OneShot, or Imperial wax work very well too. It's likely the Dillon spray works as well :)
