I pick mine up from the gunsmith next week so I'll let you know. I had my guy chop the barrel down to 16" for a mountain rifle build. I think it has a lot of potential tax a competition gun though.

They are nice little rifles, great for small statured shooters or kids or as a truck gun.  There are far better choices if competition is your goal.  I'd recommend a full size rifle with the add-ons that competition shooters use.  The caliber is a good choice but I'd choose a different everything else.

Actually, compared to other 6mm and 6.5mm cartridges, it's a poor choice unless you are limiting yourself to the AR15 platform. You want at least 2700fps and as high a BC bullet you can get, you will not get that with the 6.5 Grendel.

Might I suggest you first go and watch an NRA High Power Across-the-course match and an F-Class match, talk to the competitors about their equipment choices and then make your decision. Despite the coolness factor of the tactical matches, compared to pure shooting opportunities, they are a scarce commodity, yet nearly every weekend somewhere within a reasonable driving distance will provide you the chance to shoot High Power matches, and you will quickly master the fundamentals. Having competed extensively in my thirty's, I went from novice to High-Master scores in two seasons and set a couple of national records at 500 yards with an AR15 Service Rifle.

Excellent been thinking that I should just get an M1A so I can compete in those and use that for my high power matches and my 600 yard comps just would to build it up to make it shoot good
