I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the howa axiom / the howa m1500 action. I was considering it to do a budget sniper rifle build.
Any knowledge would be helpful or any input on doing a budget sniper rifle build. |

That is gorgeous, the stock is a little pricy for me. I will probably go with the McMillan A5. Also I'm quite jealous of that rifle, I can't wait to have one of my own.
My current rifle is an armlite m15 target rifle. I'll try to upload a picture today. She shoot pretty well but I want something for 800+ yards As far as a budget rifle goes what would be better start with the howa axiom or the Remington 700 sps varmint |

In stock form I like the howa more. Both can be tuned to be accurate rifles. The howa has a much better trigger stock (easy to adjust with screws or hone the surfaces). The only advantage I see for the Remington is parts availability. That's pretty significant because there are more parts available the parts tend to be cheaper. If you can save up and just get a ruger precision rifle. It has everything someone could want in a rifle from the factory. It seems like by far the best value in a precision rifle right now. My fatherinlaw just ordered one over a remington, howa or tikka |

I would like to sell or trade my current rifle in on whatever I end up getting.

That looks nice. To answer your question, Manners stocks are some of the nicest stocks you can put on your rifle. McMillans are just as nice in my opinion but, unless you find one in stock some where, you will have a lead time of around 6 months vs 6 to 9 weeks for a manners. I actually want to get either a heavy barrel Howa 1500 in 308 with a 20 inch barrel and put it in a manners T4A stock or chop the barrel down to 16 inches and put it in a Manners MCS-T stock. Also the Howa 1500 has the advantage of toolless bolt disassembly. Take the bolt out of the gun and turn the cocking piece clockwise if I remember correctly. Plus the Howa 1500 has a great trigger out of the box. But if you want the best value for the dollar, I would recommend you save a little more and just get the Ruger precision rifle in 308, or if you are an experienced in long range precision get the one in 6.5 Creedmoor. Also what kind of range do you have access to? That would really help determine what caliber would fit your needs best. Do you also plan to take this rifle hunting as well? If you do go with a Remington 700, look at the Remington 700 AAC-SD in 308. Those seem to have better quality control then the other 700's in the line up , but it is still not perfect. So look it over before you buy it. A local gunshop had to return one recently because he said the chamber was bored off center. Do you have a scope picked out already? if you don't want to spend tons, look at the SWFA SS line up or the PST line from vortex optics. I personally am going to put the SWFA SS 3-15x42 FFP scope on the 6.5 Grendel rifle I am building. Good luck with what ever you decide to get. This is a very fun and addicting sport. |
| Well I want to sell it since I've kinda of out grown it, she is a real great shooter 3/4 moa or even less some times depending on the loads. I want to try and get into longer range shooting and I would at least like to have a .308 and ranges near me are normally about 500 yards if I wanna drove 45 min I can do a 1000 yards and my friend is in the process of setting up a backstop at 850 on his property. |

You are lucky. The only good local range near me, The C2 shooting center, only goes to 300. Since you have all of that you could go either 308 or 6.5 creedmoor. I forgot to ask. Do you reload? Because that would paly a big part in what you get. |

No I don't reload. I may eventually get into it. I got a guy at work I trade brass and some change for some of his loads. You should get into it. It is not to bad. http://www.amazon.com/Lee-Precision-Breech-Lock-Challenger/dp/B003ISVWC6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439246790&sr=8-1&keywords=lee+precision+challenger You would really only need a few more odds and ends and a tumbler or ultra sonic cleaner. |

Well I may have done something dumb last night, I had the gun shop by the balls lasto night and they were out of howas and I managed to score the last sps tactical with a scope and rings and base with a drag bag for 900 out the door What scope? Makes a difference on whether or not you got a good deal. |

I am glad you got what you wanted. I forgot to say one thing earlier. Now that you have a Remington 700 look at the KRG Xray chassis. It is a basic chassis that doesn't offer the folding option like their Whiskey-3 chassis but it is still a good stock. http://www.kineticresearchgroup.com/index.php/categories/x-ray-chassis I just remembered about it because I got an email from Tactical Works saying they have them in stock again. They have black, FDE, and Sako Green. http://www.tacticalworks.com/Remington-700-X-Ray-Chassis.html?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=New+Product+Alert+-+KRG+X-Ray&utm_content=New+Product+Alert+-+KRG+X-Ray+CID_f11f1920e9c51e2526fd84acabde00b6&utm_source=Email%20marketing%20software&utm_term=MORE%20INFORMATION |

I must have had a brainfart because I am forgetting everything.
Also check out Mcree Precision. They have a lot of different option for his chassis. Also, just incase you don't know, the only difference between the G5 and the G7 models is the G7 models have a built in level into the stock just behind the action. That took me forever to find out what the differences between those two. http://shop.mcreesprecision.net/main.sc |
