I have some .300 mag ammo I want to burn, but dont really have anywhere accessible for .300 mag ranges.
Any TX members want to get together for some clone shooting somewhere the first weekend in March? |

I see a lot of Mk13 Mod 0 porn here, if you want info on them or have info on the Mod 0 I started up build guide that I'm trying to make the be all end all one stop shop for info on how to build a perfect clone. If you want to contribute and help make the build more accurate here's where you can see it. You don't need to post there just reply to me here and I'll transfer it over. You can tell the difference between a Mk 15 from a Canadian or standard TAC-50 by a NV mount. I've tried my best to identify this rail but I couldn't come up with anything maybe it's proprietary? USMCSGT0331,
It does seem there are 3-4 pictures out there with US military personal using a TAC-50 with no NV mount, but to me the NV version just looks better, and seems to be the more common version. I'm not sure your expertise but you seem to have some connections inside the industry. Do you know if the gunsmiths who build and maintain these guns for groups like the SEAL's manufacture custom parts such as that NV mount, or do you think they would always outsource it? It seems they were used around the same time as MK13 Mod 0's and 5's so maybe they went through Alan Brown and he could help me build one. If the mounts aren't available on the market I guess I'll just have to wait and hope that the stocks and mounts get sold off like the Mk 13 mod 0 stocks were. And thanks for mentioning the muzzle brake, I just now noticed that it's different than the C15 and civilian TAC-50. Yet anther unidentified very obscure part I'll need to find. Is this the Fisher brake you were mentioning? https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/739316080 They do look similar however the Mk 15 brake looks a little more modernized and slanted to me. If I ever do start this build I'd definitely document it! However it's looking like most of the parts are made in house unobtainium. |

View Quote "Do you think they would always outsource it?", yes, Crane outsourced 99% to 100% of the Mk15 pieces. The receiver and stock are made by McMillan, the barrel is Lilja, scope and rings are NightForce (SEAL issue). The trigger (Remington?), muzzle brake (Fisher and/or McMillan?), bipod (McMillan?) and magazines aren't made by Crane. Night vision mount is pretty much the only piece in question that could possibly be made at Crane, but I highly doubt that it was. I have absolutely zero expertise with this specific platform, I'm just going on what I see and what I've asked a few certain friends. I'm not sure if Alan knows something about these guns, but I'll ask him the next time I talk to him. If you need Mk13 clones, he's definitely the guy to build them! I also saw your thread on Sniper's Hide, shoot me an email and I'll send you some info on the Mk13 series. As for the gunbroker auction you posted, the brake might be the one or at least similar. I've never seen one in person and a SEAL buddy told me that they were pretty much unobtainium. Would be kinda crazy to buy a $4k rifle just for the brake, but if that's what it takes to be clone correct...... Damn, I really want one of these rifles now! |

Seriously considering selling my M24 and having a MK13 Mod 5 built - I wish I could afford both...
Decisions, desicions... |
|
|
Mod 7 is where it's at, you'll love the folding stock plus it comes with rails so no mount to buy if you plan on using a clip on.

I had a chance to pick up a Tac50 in the Cadex chassis, but it was a bit pricy for a used rifle and it was unclear who assembled. I also didn’t have $8,500 immediately handy so I had to pass on it.
A few months later, we were doing some renos on the house and I concocted this brilliant idea to hide the cost of the PGW LRT-3 in the renos (told my wife that PGW was a flooring company out of Winnipeg, MB). Plus PGW offered an unofficial LE/MIL discount that saved me a ton of money so I jumped on it. If I recall correctly, Cadex helped Remington in designing the RACS for the M2010 and MSR rifles. I’ve always wanted an MSR, but there was no way I would be able to get one in Canada. The Remington M24 only just came into Canada last year, and from what I hear, I got one of only ten examples, bare bones rifle only, no deployment kit, not even front or rear sight bases, bipod or sling. Anyway, my 50 is nowhere near clone correct by any means, but at least the chassis and the round are correct :) |

You guys can probably help me out here. For a spotting scope...Vortex Razor 27-60x85 or Night Force 20-60x80?? I looked through both, and the Nighforce seems slightly crisper. Both really nice tho. Vortex has a removable eyepiece for more options and has an amazing warranty. With their 40% off msrp for Mil/LEO...it will come to a little more than $100 cheaper than Nightforces Mil discount. Thanks in advance
