okay so I know that I should be saving up for a super quality piece of glass to put on my tikka ctr but I really just want to get out there and start shooting long distance

I know the company has a good rep and the features on the 4-14 FFP scope all seem nice I was wondering is it worth it as a place holder scope or would I just be throwing money down the drain on something that will frustrate me

It works fantastic as a place-holder scope. Definitely worth the money.
I've got one sitting on my Ruger Precision Rifle in that role right now.

Great optiic in my opinion. I do not personally own one but a friend of mine on a budget does. First time out to the long range with the BDC(ACSS) reticle had him banging steel between 700-800 yards with 77gr black hill ammo on his Wilson combat barreled SPR build. I think he paid under 300 bucks for it and he was going shot for shot with me and my FFP vortex optic which cost over twice as much. I guess the ACSS reticle must be a decent design if they are using them in some ACOG models now.

I have one on my RPR too.  It is a great scope for the money and will allow you to get out and shoot while you wait on your "forever" scope.  Buy with confidence.

Just an add on question. Would a pa acss 4-14 or Nikon m223 4-16 nikoplex be better served on a 18" build? I can get them close to the same price. Just trying to get some input before I buy one.

I just bought the Primary Arms 4-14 FFP this week for this exact purpose and have to say I'm pretty impressed with the quality from handling it so far. I won't get out to shoot with it for another couple of days, but as long as it's holds zero and doesn't fall apart I think it's going to be a winner for the $248 bucks it cost me (I live 20 mins from Primary Arms so didn't have to pay to have it shipped).

I did quite a bit of research and it sounds like they are rock solid on rifles up to 300 win mag, but I did find where one didn't hold up to the recoil on a 338 Lapua mag, so keep that in mind. Obviously you want an optic that can handle any beating you might give it, but at this price point if it allows you to get by until you can throw down some serious coin on a serious optic, I don't think you can beat it.

I'll let you know how my first range trip goes, hopefully this saturday...

I liked my PA 4-14x FFP Mil Dot so much, I bought the R-Grid model when they started shipping.

I was impressed with the the MD model. I was able to take it out past 600 yards (AR15 in 5.56) and it worked great.
The only thing that I had to do was clean out the silicone grease from the turrets and oil it with a lighter silicone oil (I had some oil around for paintball guns/airsoft guns).
The grease makes the turrets feel mushy. The oil is much better. The turrets dialed up and back well, no change in zero at all. However, I have not done a tracking test or anything.
I was also impressed with the glass. Nice and clear, not issues for what the scope is and the price point.

The R-Grid model didn't have the grease issue with the turrets.

The R-Grid is illuminated. The on/off knob is nicely designed. It has an "off" setting between each setting. So, it's faster to turn on and off and leave it where you want it.

I like the reticle of the R-Grid and it's thin enough to not be in the way when zoomed all the way in. I found the Mil-Dot reticle to look a little "thick". Not a big deal, but coming from thinner lines, the mil-dots look a little big.

I plan to buy at least one more for a 300BLK rifle I have laying around.

I have a 4x14 ffp that I borrowed. It is working very good. I have dialed out to 700 yds. It seems to match up with my Shooter app very well. Goes back to zero. Only thing negative that I notice is the adjustments seem mushy and the eye box is small. The glass is good for the price.

I'm not sure how it happened on my budget, but I'm turning into an optics snob (upper mid range at least)... That said, I'm thinking about a tacticool type target 10/22 or bolt gun build and I want most or all of the features of my Weaver Tactical and XTR II and can't justify that kind of coin on a trainer/plinker. I have heard enough good things about the PA that I've decided it's going to be my choice on this project.

No personal experience with it, but I've done my homework on it. It appears to be GTG.

Clean off the Silicone grease and use a light silicone oil on the O-rings on the turrets. Completely changes the turret feel.

I have basically the same optic with a bsa logo on it that works as well as the primary arms ones seem to. I have mine on my 16" 6.8 ar. It dialed out to 600 yards and rang steel a couple weeks back.

I'll be setting up a 308 bolt gun in the next couple weeks, and am planning on putting one of the PA mil dot versions on it. Also the military arms channel picked it for their 1000 yards for $1000 test.

If you want to save on shipping but would have to pay sales tax anyways because you live in TX, you can order through Amazon and get free prime shipping.

What do you use to get the grease off and what silicone lube?

Just a paper towel. You just need to wipe off the grease from the o-ring inside the turret cap and around the outside of the scope where the o-ring touches. It's not much.
I used some silicone oil I had on the shelf from my sons airsoft and paintball days.

I have the 4-14X44mm ACSS HUD DMR on my Ruger Precision Rifle .308. The scope works very well. I also have two of the 6X ACSS scopes installed on small frame AR's and the 5X ACSS on a large frame AR. Primary Arms has done a good job with their optics. And the customer service can't be beat. I'm hoping this year, they will introduce a 6-18x50mm with the ACSS reticle.
