Just found out about this recall.  Turns out a used Rem 700 Tactical Cerakote model that I bought several years ago has the suspect X-Mark Pro trigger.  I've only fired this rifle on two occasions and had no accidental discharges.  I do not want to send my rifle back to Remington for a replacement if there is a way to fix the issue myself.  And I'd rather just install an aftermarket trigger instead of going through the hassle to ship back to Remington.

Can anyone shed some light on what the specific issue is with these triggers?

My Remington 700 is on this list too.  I have no intention to send it in for anything.  I've been putting off buying an aftermarket trigger and after getting the action blueprinted, new chassis, nice barrel, etc... a trigger is the only thing I have to buy.  That being said... the XMP has never caused an issue and I had about 2000 rounds on the factory barrel before sending it off (and 100 on the new barrel).  I believe there was a lot of media hype that was involved with getting them to recall almost 8 million rifles.  That being said - don't point your gun at anything that you aren't willing to destroy (like your kid) especially when manipulating it (i.e. taking the safety off).

Aren't the XMP triggers adjustable?

Remington's website shows it adjustable. My grandfather's 700 was recalled and it did not have an adjustable trigger. Remington said if the trigger shoe is curved/rounded,  then it's subject to the recall.

Took 3 months to get his rifle back, and the customer service lady was very rude.

If I remember correctly, the rifle fired a round when closing the bolt. I'd just upgrade to a Timney.

Install a Timney.  Sell factory trigger on the EE.  I did this for the previous version of triggers that had a bad rap.  They were never recalled, but I figured I better just get rid of them.

The Timney is magical.  Get it immediately.

Yes, the Remington 700 triggers have had accidental discharging issues when switching from safe to fire. I have done some research on this and it seems to happen when the trigger system is very cold, the metal deforms slightly.

I removed the XSuck Pro from my AAC SD and installed a mid 80s Remington Factory Walker Trigger.

Please do yourself a favor and send it in or replace the trigger outright. I was unloading my Model 700 and it fired when I was right next to my son. My right hand was closed around the bolt handle, 0% chance of operator error. Gunsmith informed me about recall after the fact and sent it to Remington. If/when you replace trigger, do the right thing and don't sell it without full disclosure that it's a recalled part. Taught my kids gun safety early on and the only silver lining was the reinforcement of keeping the gun pointed in a safe direction at all times.

I've got a 700 AAC-SD that I bought in Fall 2012 and have never shot. I refuse to send in the rifle, so I went the easy route and purchased a Timney 517. Guess I finally need to shoot it now

I have 4 remington 700's, I replaced ALL of the triggers with Rifle Basix.  They work like a charm......Remington Factory turn around time is, so I heard, 3 months, so if the new triggers are too rich for ya, maybe thats the way to go.  The Remmy X triggers aren't bad at all tho, I shoot alot and just didnt wanna wait.

Happy Trails!

PS------ DO get them serviced or replaced, ummmm...Remington NEVER would have had a general recall if there wasn't a serious problem.

PSS--ALL recall info can be found on the Remington web site...they send you boxes and shipping labels and everything needed for a return, UPS will even pick up at your door.

I have 4 model 700's that fall under the recall. Spoke to Remington and they are sending boxes with labels. They also gave me the option of sending them into a certified warranty gun shop in NY. The Remington lady I spoke with said turn around may be a few months. The gunnshop I had spoken to said a few days, should have all 4 back to me within a week. The shop is Gun Works Of Central NY, if you don't want to go the factory route, look them up and give them a call. The man I spoke with was great and very helpful. Seems like a much better route than playing games with Freedom Group.

I had a 700 sps fire when switching the safety a couple of weeks ago.  I don't know whether the trigger was recalled or not on my rifle.  I just replaced with a timney.  Small price to pay for safety.  The timney is also a very nice trigger.

Sooooo, you bought something that doesn't work any different than what you replaced. Cool.

well,  everyone i've talked to said the adjustments don't work  very well on the x mark

my rifle didn't even come WITH the screw to make the adjust meant.     i felt liking replacing it

With 20/20 hindsight I should have just replaced the crappy trigger with a Timney like I was originally thinking, instead of putting up with attitude and 4 month wait.

On my Rem 700P the factory trigger was like 8 pounds out of the box. I went with a Timmney.
I didn't understand how to install it. So i called them up and the woman that picked up the phone said " No problem, I can talk you through it.
Trigger is at a very nice 3.5 lbs now

One of my 270s needs the recall, but I will put in a Timney instead.

I appreciate this post. I didn't know about the recall but found out my sps varmint is part of it. Got a new 3 lb timney to install. Never had a problem with adjustment or operation of the stock trigger in about 300 rounds but off you go.
