Anyone here have a Sig 716 DMR? If so what can you tell me about them, can you replace the stock with any old AR15 stock or does it need to be specific. Not a huge fan of the PRS to be honest. What should I get for a scope around $6-750? I can get Vortex's for 30% off via the military discount.

I carry one. It's heavy. It's accuracy is acceptable,  but you won't be winning any matches with it.

There is an older one than that from me, somewhere in that forum. I had a 716 3gun heavy. Unless you're getting one of the actual, original, DMRs, I would not ever buy one again.

Any word on the gen 2 that's lighter and more accurate? It was supposed to be out by now I thought.
This one....

What do you mean by original DMR's? There was the 3 gun heavy and precision marksman before the current DMR.

IIRC the Precision was never released to the masses. A version of it, the original 716 DMR, was released. These original models were insanely accurate, but when I had a friend run the SKUs through Sig, there was only 10 or so released, and none came through their shop, and they are a BIG Sig Sauer product mover. The thought is that these 716 DMR's (Precision) were press and show models only, although a user in the Sig Sauer forum did get one, and it shot what looked like a .5" MOA center-to-center 5 shot group with FGMM 168gr. It is visibly different from the 3Gun heavy in terms of barrel profile, but still has the 5 mile cheese grater handguard and 18" barrel.

Some of the other issues I did not like - dust cover rod retaining pin (can't use a bore guide to clean), Non-standard charging handle design - no Raptor, HARD recoil from the factory, no BCM, only BTE gear works, won't run on ANY steel magazines, no options for barrel reprofiling (at the time), 5 miles of cheese grater handguard with what felt like a 2" ID.

After adding a heavy buffer, spring, and a JP brake, it was much more pleasant to shoot rested. I even ran it in an intro to defensive carbine class. After the class, though, I decided not to use it much anymore.
