I'm trying to buy a Tikka in 223 for a lighter weight hunting rifle (I'm toting a 26" Rem varmint contour in a McMillian A5 right now) .  I'm not finding much info online about barrel contours.

I would like a medium profile (something between varmint and sporter) barrel around 20-22".  I prefer heavier over lighter barrels if the mid-weight is not something they make.

I see that Mc Millian makes stocks for the T3, is this the same as the T3X?

Do I want a T3 or T3X?

T3 and the T3x have the same footprint so all accessories should be interchangeable between them.

The T3x has a slightly larger ejection port, steel recoil lug, and aluminum bolt shroud. The one thing you need to be careful about is the twist rate as the T3s have been released in both 1/10 and 1/8. If you wanna shoot heavies you need a 1/8.

For your criteria I would suggest a T3x Varmint, 23.7" barrel and 7.9 lbs.

I just ordered a T3x Lite in 223, 22" sporter barrel that should weigh in at a total of ~6lbs. Gonna have it cut to 18" and threaded for suppressor use.

the closest match for you would be the Tikka T3x tactical model with a 20" threaded barrel. this model is what I would consider to be overpriced, considering you only get the optional adj cheekpiece and picatinny rail. the Tikka website also lists two different rifling twist rates for this rifle, 1 in 8" twist, and 1 in 12", so be careful to check before you buy. you may also get a price break on the older T3 model if you can find one.

are you wanting it threaded from the factory?    my t3 tac was the oddball foreign threading     the hunter/ forest models have a 22" bbl but are not threaded from the factory

All Tikka's to my knowledge are considered semi medium contour so they are going to be lighter than what you want.     but in all honesty i wanted thicker barrels on my guns,  i bought 2 of the Tikka's and the "thinner" barrel does not bother me.   i shoot both supressed and with a 9oz suppressor the POI is not changed significantly

i still have both stocks from my tikka's they were both decent stocks but i went the KRG and unfortunately the Cadex route    the stocks are the exact same.  like posted the t3x has some minor upgrades

put it this way.  if you plan to replace the stock get the t3..   otherwise you will be like me stuck with 2 stocks now and the newer magazine with the t3x

This question interests me as well however in the opposite direction I am building a rifle for tactical type competitions Im looking for a heavier type barrel which so far it seems like i need to go with the ctr however I intend to swap it into a mcmillan stock right away. At some point i will rebarrel it but ill be in no rush because from what i hear therye sub moa out of the box. The only problem im having is the price difference is there any heavier profile tikka i can buy to save myself some money or do I need to begin with the ctr?
