finally got my vortex pst in and i"m trying to figure out eye relief.
Never really paid attention to the fine tuning of a scope and stock combo on my deer rifles. still killed lots of deer. 
now that i've ventured into the precision world I'm trying to really set this rifle up right. Specs: ruger precision in .308, vortex pst scope, vortex rings, and magpul prs stock. Where I currently have the scope feels ok but I think if i lengthened the PRS all the way out it would feel better.(6'2" tall, long arms) Or should I just move the scope further forward? but if I move the scope forward my cheek doesn't really fall on the prs cheek weld. 
so yeah, I don't know what to tinker with first..

I would say get your stock to where it's most comfortable to you in the shooting position you will be using the most.
Then move the scope and rings to where you get full eye box at he highest magnification. Make sure that you can close your eyes, get your cheek weld, open your eyes and still have that clear sight picture. |

Yeah a lot of people will use low magnification first. Which is fine for getting in the range for proper eye relief. But you will definitely want to crank the magnification up all the way before you settle on front to back placement. The exit pupil will be smallest at the highest magnification so the eye relief will be much more critical at higher magnification.
At low magnification, the exit pupil is larger which will mean a much more forgiving eye relief. |
