If this isnt the place i apologize... going on a hog hunt in a few weeks heres what my rifle set up is
M&P 10 .308 Vortex Viper PST 4-16 (prob a little much even at 4x but its what i have) Barnes Vor-tx 168 grn TSX I talked to the guy who runs the hunt and he said MOST rifle shots from stands at pigs by the feeders are about 60-90 yards. I live in N. Ilinois so there arent really any places to go shoot at any distance (minus joining a private club). The place i was gonna go to is GAT Guns bc they have an indoor 75 yard rifle range. Im pretty new to all this so my questions are as follows 1 if i zero at exactly 75 yards how low will my shots be from say 25 yards to my 75 yard zero? I know i can shoot at those distances at the indoor range and take notes but at $40 for a box of Barnes id like to keep ammo usage to a minimum... Cheep ass i know 2 if i need to take a longer shot say out to 150 yards what will the bullets be doing? Please remember i dont have acess to any longer distance shooting at the moment. Im hoping to be able to send a few down range when i get to the Lodge, but in the event i cant i figured id ask you guys Im aware pigs are pests, but even they deserve a one punch knockout...also policy there is a wounded animal even if not found is gonna cost the same as it would if i dropped it in its tracks Yes its a fenced hunt I know I know, Thanks in advance |

Here is my data from my 17" .308 with a 168gr bullet to give you an idea of what to expect with a 100 yard zero. You can zero at 75 if you want and adjust to match.
At 25 yards about 1.25" low At 50 yards about .5" low At 75 yards about .25" low At 100 yards should be dead on. Basically, with a 75 yard zero hold dead on between 25 yards and 150 yards. |

Thats why im trying to pick your brains a bit. Zero at a hundred yards. Between 0-100, your lowest point will be at muzzle and will be whatever the difference in height is from scope center to bore. As you get to 100, this gets smaller and smaller until at 100 you are dead on. |

Well thats how it came out The yardages are 25, 50, and 75 not 100 yards. All shots were aimed center circle. Dot 3 was 25 yards Dot 6 was at 50 and 8,9,10 were at 75. Just trying to learn as i go. Wish i could of shot more but that Barnes is expensive. Lots of fun though. Thanks for the help so far |
