I'm aware match grade is ideal but which .308 do you guys recommend for range? I do not hunt or do competitions. I have a Remington 700 Police 5R. I'll be shooting match as well but not all the time. Just want to see what options you guys recommend. Ive been looking at the Federal XM80C but not sure if it's worth buying. Thanks!

I shoot my own reloads, which I dialed in to shoot just a hair better than FGMM 168 or 175.
Cost about $0.42 a pop.

Check out the Hornady 178 ELD-M. I reload my own.

If you are looking for fairly inexpensive factory ammo that is accurate and you don;t care about keeping brass then look at the Hornady 155 Steel Match. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/861113/hornady-steel-match-ammunition-308-winchester-155-grain-hollow-point-boat-tail-steel-case-box-of-50

If you want match performance then you gotta pay the piper. Cheaping out doesn't work, just makes groups bigger and guns dirtier. Federal Gold Medal Match 168's and call it a day or learn how to reload and get your match ammo for the price of bulk surplus.

I will add, try out some of the MEN 147gr ball ammo. I was very surprised to find this stuff shoots just at MOA from my AIAX. It is not Hornady or FGMM, but if you can find it cheap and your rifle will shoot it...

I've never understood the term "range use".       If you're not trying to get accurate shots, what are you trying to do?

Anyway, I've had excellent results with a ammo locally made in mid-Michigan.    It goes by the brand name OTM.   On The Mark Inc.     168 gr  308.  They use Hornady BTHP bullet.

Available at Jay's Sporting Goods, Clare Michigan.   I bought a bunch of it for $15 a box of 20 a couple years ago.    Ordered it over the phone.

Can get 0.5 in moa out of my Savage model 10.

Good luck

I had similar results with DAG93 once I buffed the corrosion off of it, but I didn't shoot a lot of it in my target rifle due to the cupro-nickel jacket material and reports of increased fouling/wear.

It shoots better than most match ammo I tried out of my RFB for some reason.

I usually just shoot my reloaded 175 SMK load, but when I first picked up my Savage 10 I tried a box of all the M80 clones that Cabelas had and the PPU M80 shot the best and most consistent of all the M80 clones I tried.

Yeah, I've shot a ton of the PPU white box stuff, it's ~2-2.5 MOA ammo out of my gun.

The tanish box PPU M80 is what I've used.

That corroded ammo is not safe to shoot.  Buffing it does not change it back to non-corroded.
