I have a savage 110 in 3006 I have owned it for a while. It has consistently shot about 2 inches. It seems to consistently throw flyers. I have replaced the scope that it came with. Hoping it was the scope.
I have also tried multiple different loads with little change. I am wondering if it is me because it is a pre outrigger me but despite the trigger i do not believe that is the problem. edited to add; i also so have a 308 remington that shoots sub moa and several ar's that group exceptibly. So i know that i have basic abilities to shoot. |

Do you reload, or are you shooting factory ammo? "Multiple different loads" isn't quite clear to me.
Scope base tight? Action screws tight? Barrel free-floated? Action bedded into the stock? Shooting prone or off a bench? I actually prefer the old-style 3 screw trigger to the Accutrigger...you can tune them up pretty darn nicely. |
| I have a winchester model 70crf in 30-06 that is and always has been a 1.5 moa gun with factory ammo including 168gr fgmm. When I started reloading for it, I loaded up some 175smk's with a 0.005" jam and now it groups 0.5-0.75 moa 5-shot groups with boring regularity. I have found on several 30-06's that they like anywhere from a 0.010" hard jam to a 0.005 soft jam for best results. These loads are all magazine length. |

I would make sure everything is torqued correctly...when someone says "make sure bases and rings are tight" that's not the correct answer. Buy yourself a good torque set...the Wheeler FAT wrench isn't bad, but if you have more funds I'd highly recommend the Borka torque set. Also make sure the stock is torqued correctly as well.
As far as the accutrigger comment...the trigger isn't going to make your rifle shoot better...that is more about personal preference than anything else. You can also put in an aftermarket trigger. I typically buy Rifle Basix triggers as my replacements, but Timney and SSS also offer aftermarket triggers. |
