Have been having lite primer strikes
After some SWAGing I was able to get my
firing pin and spring out and this is what I found...
Not sure what to think of it....
round count is 1287

Primer?
BTW you can remove a firing pin assmbly with a dime and a shoe lace.  The image posted made me wonder what ammo was used.
The primer looks as if the bolt has been counter sunk

went out today and had 11 lite strikes out of 34 rounds...
only none factory part on the action is the Timney 510,  So I got
the action out and took a pic and am wondering it this wear is normal..
Got a email into Timney on this also.
Looked at a round shot out of a a PSS and can say that the impact area
was noticeably deeper and pronounced..
I suspect 1 of 3 things
pin
spring
trigger

What you are saying is you have the Timney and are getting light strikes?  You may need a long sear from Timney. Had the same issue on 2 700s, long sear took care of it.

Now this is useful information

When the problem first showed up I had just installed my first Timney on 700 VSF.  Changed firing pin and spring thinking that was the issue, did not resolve it. Did some searching and found a post on another forum that mentioned the long and short sear on 700s with Timney triggers. Got a long sear issue disappeared. Had to do the same on my AAC.

That fraction of an inch the bolt now protrudes more than with the short sear gives the pin that much more oomph (highly technical term, I know....) it seems.

After reading this thread I have sent my #517 Timney trigger in for
the long sear.

I have had the same problem with light firing pin strikes but was using the
Tubb Speedlock System.  Reinstalled the original pin and spring but it just
wasn't the same as with the original Remington trigger.

"rg7620", thanks for bring this problem up.

"avmech", thanks for letting us know about the long sear.  Your pictures matched mine exactly.

Most welcome!  I beat my head against the wall till I read a thread on another "sniper" type forum about it and fixed it!  Sharing info is what it is all about.

Rg7260, glad it worked out!
