I want to get one and pull it behind my M1009. I have read about guys pulling them behind their Jeep YJ's. Too heavy for a 1009? I also want to do an axel conversion to a chevy 8 lug. Any advice on either?

You will be fin towing the trailer. As far as the 8 lug swap there are 2 ways to go. First get a 14-bolt full floating rear axle (cheap and everywhere). If you get it from a 3/4 ton truck, it will bolt right up, it you get it form a 1-ton, you will have to weld new spring perches, as the 1-ton ones are closer to the ends of the axle. For the front, you can either buy a dana 60 from a 1-ton (expensive, but the best option), or swap all the 8-lug parts from a 3/4 axle. Both the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton trucks used the same front axles, so the parts are interchangeable. For more info I would check out www.ck5.com

I'd love to get one from DRMO, but there's no way I'm pulling that behind my YJ. The trailer itself weighs in at 1300lbs. I have a Karavan steel-walled 6X8 trailer that weighs in at 550lbs and can carry 1.5 tons. Not as badass, but suits me just fine.

Now I'm confused, are you wanting to change the axel on the trailer or the truck?

I just got an M105 1.5 ton (big brother to the M101) to pull behind my 'Mog last night.
Pulls great -can't even tell it's there.
I'm not sure what the M101 weighs (the M105 is 2700Lbs+ empty) but it's got to be lighter...
Both are designed to pull behind the Deuce and a half truck.
The pintle hitch is high on that sucker... same as the 'Mog.
The folks who sold it to me were kind enough to give me the round military connector for the vehicle too
-So no butchering the connector on the trailer.
Try to find one of the updated trailers with the LED tailights.
They work from 10-30Volts (The Deuce is a 24V system, the 'Mog has been converted to 12V)
-no changing lights/bulbs is required that way, and no bulbs to burn out either.
My trailer was fully refurbed on 2007 (new wiring, new paintjob, tires, brakes, Gladhand connectors, everything, never used after the rebuild -like new)
and it was only $450.
It didn't come with the bows or the tarp, just the box.

On the trailer to match the M1009.

There is some confusion when you talk about M101 trailers and Jeeps.  The ones the Jeep guys have are the M101 CDN...the Canadian 1/4 ton trailers they surplussed down here several years ago.   I had one and towed it behind my Jeeps.

The M101A1 trailer is an entirely different animal.

The M101 CDN trailer weighs about 750 pounds.....the M101A1 weighs double that and is a much larger trailer.

The dry weight on my M101A2 is 1250lbs on the data plate.  I pull it with my M1009 loaded with no issues.

The trailer is rated at 3/4 ton (1500lbs) load.  I have not pulled it loaded to rated capacity but would

be real careful doing it.

Is the M1009 capable of pulling it loaded? Yes

Is the pintle hitch secured well enough to pull it loaded?  Probably not

Install a 2in receiver then use a pintle hitch would be careful approach.

I missed the boat.

I have both an M105A1 and a M101A1

the M105A1 is a beast, frakken heavy and I only use it behind my Deuce.
The M101A1 is a lot more practical, simply due to its lighter weight.
I tow my M101A1 behind my F150 and it goes fine.
They are rated for 3/4 ton across country and 1.5 tons on the road, the
M105 is 1.5 tons across country and 3 tons on the road.

Yes, you will need a high pintle.

Here is my M105A1

and my M101A1

Here is the M101A1 just sitting on a ball hitch on my F150 when I first got it.
I had to put a good reese hitch on the truck and get a pintle and high mount

The M101A1 is still a big trailer and not something I would want to haul behind a Jeep.
I got mine for $301 and then picked up a cover. I just need a bow kit for it.
I'm going to repaint it next spring and make some mods to it.
I have the old wheel bolt pattern/rims/tires. You can find them with the same bolt/wheel
pattern as the M1009s with modern radials.

Sweet set ups. I can't wait to get mine this weekend. How heavy is the metal third wheel?

On the M105 it's frakken heavy....
My M101A1 just has a non-adjustable leg that drops down when you pull a pin.
You will want to put an adjustable leg on it.
Also, don't forget to use the rear stablizer that drops down from the bottom of the bed when
it's not attached to a vehicle and you are climbing in and out!!
