I'm busted up as shit tonight.

I'm gonna go find the knife posts and try to find a little me to love.

Didn't help as much as I hoped.

We should do a hammer-in. Load the truck up with old leaf springs and gas bottles and just beat metal to death.

I'm trying something different from my usual work.

I thought you all might appreciate a sneak peek.

It all started because I didn't know if I could pull off grinding a swedge/false edge over a hollow grind like you see on a Randall knife.

At this point, I think I'm going to mount a single lug brass guard in the loveless style and keep the handle a true full tang but I may still change my mind.  What's ground now is just pre heat treat rough grinds to save me some headache and abrasives later. The edges are still about an eighth of an inch thick.

See now that side makes more sense to me.
On the harsh side you've left the teeth pretty tall, so I was wondering if you were going to bring the whole face down some more.

And I have to say, because I know the terror, those drops are very nice.  Well done.

Glad to see no rust or other issues.

Long way from the maze, but really just another one now.

Yeah, I think I'm going to need to grind that side down some more, especially where the guard and handle scales will go.

And thank you.

Dfarm yes that is Busse.  I cannot remember the name, but the carefully curated Busse rumor was that it is a super Duper special secret order/design for super creepy secret Israeli special forces. Which I believe to be fantastically unlikely because the knife is basically unusable. The tiny broomstick thin handle so slippery and slim The blade wanders around in your hand if you so so much just try and peel an apple. I really want to like Busse and have quite a few with the exception of one they are all pretty much useless.

Stj yes the pic is yesterday. Leaving your knife available and unattended. It's pretty much like leaving a samurai sword out and about.  It just cannot be done, so I keep it in its box and take it out every now and then and ponder. It is well coated with Renaissance wax and should last generations.

mind blowing to believe your girl is in college now. I hope she is close as in no more than a short drive? If that is possible?

Former11 when I used to shop the net and pawnshops for affordable Randalls that model 14 showed up at a very low price and I eventually tracked it down to one of the known Randall middlemen who had commissioned some customs with his own colored laminates. So apparently now it is quite valuable as the laminates no longer exist. Just one of the several model 14s I bought with the intention of using that will never see a single slice of anything because they're just too damn pretty.

Yep, it is pretty close to perfect. The only thing I would change/wish more knife makers would do keep the spine and tip thick to the very end for digging and prying, etc..

Unless you're building a tool specific to a task, every aspect of the design is a compromise.

If you made the tip durable enough to deal with real prying and digging, it's going to stab and cut like garbage at the tip.

There were a hell of a lot of people that needed a hell of a lot of help.  Ended up pulling $10k worth of gas, water, groceries, sanitation up there over 3 trips in 3 days.  800mi total.  No FEMA and all the NG I saw were sitting around in empty parking lots with their trucks.  Only government entity I saw working was DOT, running around putting down cones on washed out roads.  All the collection/distribution points down in the valleys are choked with stuff, while the people up in the hollers couldn't get down to it.  I pulled that trailer up and down roads and trails that it shouldn't have been on at all.  Good times.
