I came across diagrams of antennas that look like that this weekend while I was researching stuff.  Can't find them now to save my life though...

That guy must have gone with the upgraded alternator and extra 20 pack of marine batteries.

It didn't happen to be for an indoor low band antenna did it? I remember seeing a diagram that looked similar to the picture above, but it was for a 160m attic antenna. It made me think of spiders.

Go to a hamfest with lots of cash and you can make your car look like that too!

I think it was when I was looking for stuff about log periodics.  You can make some amazing spider webs out of wire...

Works for me. Better than testing the speed of ketchup or something.

Near me is the Navy Jim Creek VLF antenna.  It is a little big to get into one picture, but below are a couple of diagrams.  I can only find photos of 1/2 of it.

Years ago, I got a call from AT&T asking if I still had my security clearance.  It seems they needed a cleared tech to go install a station package at the "Jordan Lake Space Surveilance Station" near Montgomery, AL.  I thought they were kidding, or meant near huntsville.  But in the middle of the cow pasture was a 1200' long antenna array that throws a fan like beam up into space, and when a satellite passes through it, the signal is recieved in a similar RX only station in GA.  They told me what their EIRP was and it was in the 10 megawat range AVERAGE power.  The master station was a megawatt out of the transmitter, and nearly a gigawatt EIRP.

I checked the sectional chart to see if there was any warning for pilots, but at least for the alabama site, there wasn't.

The old Russian Duga-3 system was pretty impressive. It was known as "The Woodpecker" and cursed by hams worldwide.

I'd love to hook up my FT817 to the "Woodpecker antenna" and do some QRP work. BTW, Russians often call CW operators - woodpeckers.

It was probably done to increase bandwidth.

They are broadband dipoles, a variation of the old cage antenna. You can play around with the parameters HERE.
