To everyone who has posted photos, congratulations on some fine-looking deer. I guess it was just meant to be. This was my first rifle season in a long time. I generally bow hunt. I too thought, why take that shot at a spike? Maybe it was a complete miss [:// Other than a blind left eye he seemed totally healthy. The arrow lodged just under the brain at the base of the skull. I have been hearing quite a few stories about animals harvested with broad heads or bullets lodged in em lately. |

One 7pt, one 6pt and two 8pts. I killed another 8pt that morning too that I should have passed that isn't in this pic. These above deer were all killed on opening day of muzzleloader except the 8pt with the horns cut off. I live in VA not WV, regulations are totally different. You can kill two a day, six a license year. Of the six deer limit, no more than three may be antlered deer and at least three must be antlerless deer. You can kill more than 2 deer a day if you are on a DMAP property which I am. |

He's hanging in the shed right now.... I have to bone up on recipes now. I've butchered one road kill deer before, made steaks from the backstrap, hamburg, and stew meat. I'd like to expand my venison repitoire, though. |
