Not the best....but I've been using the clay holders from WalMart all year and they are still working.

Are the walmart stands plastic?  And if so how do the hold up to a shotgun?

Walmart stands I got, came in a pack of 4, used steel rods with plastic "V"s to hold clays. I've peppered the heck out of a lot of them, over and over, they still work fine. The shot passes straight through them and leaves a few rough exit spots now and then.

Just a side note, but we have a few of the ones from Midway that use a round clay holder instead of the V shape.......we prefer them over the Walmart ones, but they ended up being slightly more expensive and had to be shipped. When we bought the Walmart ones, we didn't know how this whole 3-gun thing would go and didn't want to spend much.......     ........we have since spent a small fortune in steel targets.

for a stand that will see a lot of use for club matches...  weld a short cross piece (check fit, but around 2" ) that will fit "inside" the dome of a clay bird,  a couple of inches down from the top... use 1/2" cold rolled or rebar... slant the shaft slightly in the ground... you can pound on the stand  top with a sledge without breaking... using the small cross piece holds the clay bird in place better than longer cross pieces...

if you make them for club use... make a fixture for mass production, but check your geometry  so you get a good 3 point contact inside the lips of the clay..each side of the cross piece and the top of the stand...

TACCOM sells steel plates in various sizes for shotgun and .22 use.  They do not come with stands, but you can simply use hooks from a garden supply store for them.  Best thing is the shipping on the steel is only $9.95.

Their stands are at the bottom of that page. Those targets are great, and cheap!

For stands, go to your local moving company and buy clothes box hanger bars for less than $1 a piece then snap or cut off one end and drive it in the ground.  The other will hold a clay hung on the front of it or knock down steel put on top of the flat surface.  I also bought 4" knockdown steel from qualitytargets.com.  This system works well.

I bought a 20' stick of rebar for $6 and made 8 clay holders w/ a small cross bar and foot peg to push it into the ground.

I found this info over on Eno's in the 3Gun section under gear. But I bought these 24 inch wardrobe box hanger bars. Found them online and bought them for 1.72 a piece. We used them today and they work great. We ran the load 12 challenge plus tons of practice. At least 300 shotgun shells and they held up great. I heard you can pick them up through moving companies for cheaper some have posted as low as .50 cents. Cut one end off to a sharp point. I have used the walmart holders, rebar but by far these have worked the best. Hope this helps. Just google wardrobe box hanger bars and you should be able to get a better idea.

Sorry didn't see the previous post where these were mentioned.

Shipping is like 24 bucks for 10. You can order some if you have a staples or office depot/office max and do instore pick up for roughly the same cost. Another option is ebay or try your local moving company.

I like this idea so went down to my local Uhaul to buy a few. Walked in asked what i was looking for and the store manger gave me a few for FREE. He said they always got 2-3 extra for even couple dozen boxes he order so to have at it. I told him to work out how many he had extra in his current stock and I would give him a buck each for them if they worked out.

Can someone post a close up picture of these wardrobe rods?  If possible I'd love to see the end of it with some steel or a clay on it too.  Thanks.

There you go Jesse. I can take a pick of the grounded end for you later tonight and post it here as well if you like.

Here are the 18in versions. On top is an 8in round to show that it will support a larger target fine.

Hope this helps
