I got my DR 650 all ready for the summer.  Just installed a set of Shinko 705 tires (had D606's previous) and installed a large Acerbis gas tank.  I also finished up a set of side pannier mounts I welded up last year.

I'm going to be riding either to Grand Mesa or the Great Sand Dunes in the next few weeks!  My V-Strom might be sitting in the garage for a while

Pannier mounts look goooood. Damn son!

Love the color of the plastics, is that Alumahyde?

Why don't people paint those extra capacity gas tanks to match body color? No one ever seems to.

Thanks.

Color is rattle can Krylon Fusion.  It works GREAT on plastics and the cans have a nice tip that sprays a good pattern.

I ordered the natural color tank specifically so that I could see the fuel level at a glance.  DR650's don't have a gas gauge and the transparent tank lets you know instantly how much you have.

Never understood why one doesn't just tape off a strip, paint the tank, then peel off the tape and have a spot that you can easily see your remaining fuel while having a matching tank paint job.

Gas inevitably spills when filling.  Also, the fumes from the gas making their way through the plastic.  Both of these means that any pain't doesn't last long on a plastic thank.

Also the plastic that the tank is made from doesn't accept paint very well.

Will do.  I may ride to the Great Sand Dunes first though.  Riding over the pass might be a little too chilly just yet

Yeah, I'd LOVE to get a set of motard wheels for the bike, just too pricey though.

Here's how the bike looked a couple weeks ago.  This photo was taken right before my dad and I left for a long weekend of camping and prospecting up in the high country last year.

Found a promising stream that we might file a claim on this year.

I really didn't know any of that. Thank you sir! I'm just a humble on road rider.

Took a 140 mile riding of mixed trails/road in the mountains. It was so windy that I nearly was blown off the trail a few times. That isn't good when there is a 1000 ft. drop at the edge of the trail

Just one photo, I was too busy riding and the wind, clouds and darkness didn't make for good picture takin

If you're doing spraybomb there's no point, gas will eat it off if you spill a drop on it.

...well that's certainly a new term I've never heard before.  At first I thought you were insulting the OP's bike.

Nice. I just rode my brother's 2012 DR tonight and it had more power than I expected, pretty smooth for a thumper, and it handled great offroad too (even caught a bit of air). Front wheel came up no problem too. I thought it was a great bike (love the strom though too).

Where do you live in CO? Im in Centennial. Let me know if you want to ride!!
