I'm considering picking up a 91 FJ80... An 80 series is my dream "expedition" rig. The "triple-locked" models all seem to be out of my price range - but I've found a couple deals withing driving distance on the "regular" models.

Were I you, I'd at least try to get a 93 or newer, 95 of newer if you can swing it, even not locked.  In 91 and 92 they had the 4 Liter engine which is pretty doggy.  In 93 and the start of FZJ80 they went to the 4.5L which is better, though certainly not overpowered!  Most aftermarket stuff in every category specifies a FZJ.  A 93 or 94 without optional ABS has a semifloat rear axle and rear drum brakes instead of disk.  In 95 they added in air bags, ABS, and OBDII.  I am cool without the airbags and ABS, but OBDII would have been nice when I was baselining it.

Too late... I actually passed up a '93 for this '91 - it was just much nicer all around. I just got in a little while ago, after some impromptu off-roading... These things are Beasts... Not nimble like the JK, but much more "tractor" like. It's no dragster, but I drove it home on the interstate at 70+ with no drama. After a little work, I think this thing could be driven anywhere on the continent.

I need to get some better pictures done...

Yeah, I've been reading over at IH8MUD, Slee, etc... I promised the wife that the JK is getting "finished" first, but I'm looking forward to some mods on "Godzirra". I'll post pics once my BFL decals show up.

My ex UK military Land Rover Lightweight (Airportable).
Just got through getting her wheels powder coated and new tires put on.    Still in partial winter mode with the doors on, hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate and I can pull them off soon.

Are those Goodyear MT/R's? if so, how are their road manners - or off-road performance? I've noticed that 4Wheel Parts has 33 & 35" (15") sizes for a pretty agreeable price. I'm starting to think about mods on my FJ80, and the 31x10.5's are just too small for a rig of it's magnitude...

Yep. Pretty good on road as long as there is no snow or ice, not sure how they do in the rain. They are loud on some road surfaces. They are fantastic off road.

It looks nice & unmolested!
I had a 96' Sport - 4.0L, auto, 231 - on 235/75R15 Firestone Destination AT's, it was a great rig to go exploring & camping in. Holding 5 people & all your gear is something my Wrangler just isn't built for.

It is unmolested, it belonged to an older gentleman that died so his daughter sold it, it's a 1996 with 100k.  The interior is brand new and best of all no one has messed with anything.  I will be adding a 4.5 lift, SYE, Tom Woods drive shaft, some Rigid driving and flood lights, a rack, and some 32's.  I also plan on taking it camping and exploring.

Here's my new RZR 900XC. Picked it up Saturday and paid cash for it. Most of the ups and extras for it except the radio. I had the dealer replace the wheels with ones from the trail edition so I could keep the 50" width to keep it a class 1 ATV (there are virtually NO class 2 ATV trails here in PA). Oddly enough, the dealer had a radio in a demo model and I used my phone with it. Sure enough, it worked great. Re thinking the radio, now.

That's one of my "girls" in the last picture, Lilly. She's eyeing it up for a ride.

A 125cc Grizzly showed up on CL today, I took my son to look at it and it followed us home. He is crazy excited. For now we are stuck on roads and a flat field. Hopefully soon I'll be able to ride some trails. (Back injury)

One of my other rig.  It's pretty much my daughter's ride since she started driving.  But I have future plans for this vehicle.

We just re-did the wheel on this rig, turn out pretty good.
