Bought it from the diver it was issued to. I was surprised to see another in this thread.

What?  No gold divers?

31 Year old Heuer.  Technically not a TAG-had the face replaced in the 90's.  Wolf of Wall Street 80's.

What's funny is that in the movie still you can see that the stem is unscrewed and pulled out:

My daily watch (and nightly too as I never take it off) since 1983.  Bracelet is covered in scratches, it's been at significant depths in the ocean each of the last 34 years and still runs great.  I'm not exactly sure when I'm supposed to stop getting in the water with a "vintage" watch but my service guy said it's as watertight now as when I bought it new at the dealer, and it wasn't called vintage when I bought it so onward it goes.  They switched to the gloss dial a very short time later and at the time I wish I had the gloss dial with saffire crystal model.  Over time I've come to realize I got in under the wire and am happy I did.  There have been serveral times I've been weary of it and wanted to sell it but my wife nixed that idea.

The first two times I had it serviced I sent it to RNY, after that I sent it to Rolex/Dallas, and have now switched to a local guy who gets recertified annually by Rolex and is FAR cheaper than sending it to RNY, and more importantly he won't swap out the original dial like RNY does.

So, if you walked into the main Rolex place in Singapore ("Rolex House" on Orchard Road) back in 1983, this is what $400 USD would get you.  In hindsight, I should have bought a suitcase full of 1016's which were much cheaper but this is what I chose:

According to the inflation calculator that is $984 in today's money.

I wish I could get no date subs for $984

I have the same watch, but with the blue dial.  Dead on accurate, gains ~one second a day. An impulse buy that is part of the rotation.

If you own a seiko, you owe it to yourself to upgrade to a sapphire... arguing otherwise is pointless. They are $30-$80 depending on what bells/whistles you like. Double domed & AR coated are $50

Steinhart makes a good quality watch. The movement is an ETA 2824 and is running around 2.8 secs per day fast. It is sturdy and fit and finish are very good for the price point. I like it a lot.
