Subscribed. Now I might have to build myself a watch.

I see there are links for Dials, bezels and hands. But where are you guys getting your movements and the cases?
|
|

I get mine from AliX.
I watch for good sales. Last Nh35 I got was just over 12 bucks ! |

edit: is there a good overview of watch style/design around? i default to divers, but would like to build a variety. |

Pretty happy with my latest. 62mas conversion case, sort of a retroish thing. Top hats are cool. |

So this has my interest as I'm about to replace a broken crystal in the seiko my wife gave me.
Would anyone be able to post a list of what parts you would need to buy to build a watch (or at least what compatibilty to look for)? I looked on Ali and there is a lot and I have no idea who you know if things are compatible. |

The following need to be compatible
Choose your case from AliExpress. Most common one is NH35, NH36, NH38, NH40, NH70 etc compatible and 28.5mm Dial compatible that comes with the bezel and bezel insert pre installed. Get one of those. If they offer the bracelet at the same time you like get it. Choose your movement choice from above. About the features of the different NH Movements and 2nd Site Get NH35 compatible dials and hands. Get a bracelet or band that is compatible with your case. If you go with a case without the bezel take note of the bezel size and go search form there. |

Seiko 5 Seiko SNK381K1 base, nh36 movement, and not sure what else I would need besides a band. |

Let's go Brandon!
Everything you need to know about the left was on display during covid . -RC03 |
Every thing came from off AliX.
Skx style case, NH35 movement, are the majors. Dial, hands, and bracelet, just random finds I liked. I can post links later on everything except the bracelet, if you'd like. |

You can save quite a bit on money if you have patience to wait for sales, and build up coins. Set up an account, and each day check in to get coins. Here's the stainless skx cases. Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! $40.00 | 42MM Black Ring 007 Watch Case With Sloping Bezel For NH34 NH35 NH36 NH38 NH70 NH72 Movement 007 009 173 Case https://a.aliexpress.com/_mNHu5GY I paid under 10 bucks on sale and using coins. Lots of info on YouTube on how to assemble. Just like an AR. I can't say build for either, as your just putting parts together. This dial is only for NH35 or NH36 movements. I'm enlarging the hole to use an NH34. Good luck. Oh, always, always, buy 2 sets of hands. You'll thank me later. The seconds hand is a bitch. If your going to make more, most catch the addiction, buy a large, lighted magnifying lens. I had one I used for reading my reloading scale and other old eyes duty. Also a pair of cheap, reading glasses. Get the highest magnifying you can find. The better you can see these tiny parts, the easier time you'll have putting them together. |
|
|
Thanks @teats. It will probably take a while for me to decide what I want for the first assembly. Once I do, I will post it here.

I've ordered a new crystal and tools to fix the seiko my wife gave me
If this works then I may try rolling my own. Two questions: Do you buy precut bezel 3m tape or is there a preferred method? What about gaskets? Are those needed to keep things water/dust air tight? |

So you have all inspired me to finally get started and when I saw that parts could be sourced from Ali Express, I was not so concerned with damaging something during my learning curve.
I bought a movement a dial and a case, however none of the dial legs line up with the movement. I think I need a different dial. This is what I am going for, I am so close Attached File |

Where, did you buy it from. The description will always say what movement it's for. I'm looking at making a pilot watch next. Here's an ad that says this dial is for what movements. |

I've got a custom watch a guy made with a Seiko movement. It gains 20 seconds a day so I quit wearing it. It's just too much.
People here said that's within spec and not so bad. I realized I'm a quartz guy. |
