When did the British Army phase out Shorts for uniform combat wear and does anyone else still actually issue shorts as part of a combat uniform?

What reason were shorts issued for combat wear?

Didn't you get the memo? Shorts are for women and children, grown men wear pants. And not sweatpants either!

The Brits and Aussies still do, however they normally don't wear them on patrols.

There used to be a hot blonde with the Australian Army contingent on Camp Virginia in Kuwait back in 2005...

I'd drool half to death every time I ran into her wearing her uniform shorts in the PX...

I've seen pics of Danes wearing shorts on their FOBs in Afghanistan - but not as part of a combat uniform or outside the base.

Shorts and issued flip flops.

Silly Danes.

Probably concerns about increase bug bites, ticks, and parasites maybe?

Perhaps it's the load each service member is now carrying and the fact of increase cuts and abrasions to the knees and legs with concerns of infections? No idea.

its interesting how the countries with the most experience historically with fighting in deserts and jungles (brits, danes, french) are the ones that issue shorts...

UDT Shorts are still around in the Navy and Marines, don't know if they qualify as part of a "combat uniform".. Although UDT guys certainly wore them in Vietnam.
