The Schwinn Stingrays.

I won't hotlink other site's pics, but here's a great example

The back of the banana seat always seemed to break after jumping homemade ramps (plywood over a cement block) in the street over and over  We didn't have those sissy bicycle helmets either!

My buddy has 8 of them in his garage in various stages of repair.

Needs a fox fork and not a Rock Shox.  I'm also partial Gary Fisher.  Although I have been looking seriously at the soon to be released Yeti full suspension 29er.

Loved my Stingray.  OP is right.  Coolest bike ever.  When there was a cute girl behind me on the banana seat––life was nver better than that.

I had the five speed "Lemon Peel" as a kid. I have a regular one hanging in the garage I have been wanting to restore or go old school BMX on it.

I had one of these in the late 70's, my uncle gave it to me.  Like a dumbass I trashed it for the most part and quickly threw it by the wayside because it was cool to have a bmx bike with 'pads' at the time.

I had one of these but it was called "Slingshot" and yellow with the small front wheel and 5, count them, 5 speeds. You could not do a wheelie to save your ass. At least I couldn't.

So many to list so shitty memory. Never rode a amp? with a 4 link that specialized took off with and those rode nice. I like light full suspensions that ride like a hard tail.

The first rear pegs i had were like those. If your foot moved back while cranking  they would rise and it would hurt.

OT: Thank you OP for this thread i just remembered i needed some chainring spacers i couln't find and now have a little lathe. Forgot all about it because they were light for my old wieght. Now it is fine.

I remember the 'high end' Crate bikes having the girder front end with drum brake, and telescoping suspension on the back end, with a disc brake.
MAY, be end swapping the brakes, hard to remember.
Friend of of mine still has his, big $$$ item.

I'm the right age to have had a stingray. Mine was the basic single speed model, no handbrakes or any of that stuff. I could ride a wheelie on that bad boy until I ran out of road or energy.

Some of the sidebar pics on that site made me remember the Husqvarna motocrosser (actually a WR250 desert racer but I raced some MX on it) I bought because of On Any Sunday, Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen.

Was recently in a bike shop in Tulsa that had several Stingray variants (as well as other vintage bikes) up on the walls.  I had mine for such a short time before it was stolen that I don't remember much about it.  I do remember the banana seat and a shifter on the top-tube.  It was also this color:

This.

That shifter was an attempt at voluntary population control. And if you were lucky enough NOT to get racked on your landing, the point of the banana seat was on standby to provide a "rear admiral" or at the very least an "oil check". Imagine how many pair of Batman underoos are still missing because of that bike.

Cool to look at, yes. But not a good bike to ride.

ETA - Retro Cook Brothers bikes FTW

No, it's not me.  I want a Recumbent in the worst way, since I have a bad back.  Riding just about ANY of the bikes pictured so far would mean needing a crane to get my ass off the bike when I was done...

Anyone who has seen a fast carbon fiber recumbent in action would want one.  There is a reason that all open class bicycle endurance and speed records are held by recumbents.

Fastest growing segment of the bike industry is recumbent trikes with 100% sales growth year after year for the last five years.

I like old school fat tires cruisers.  I've restored and did some custom stuff to several.  I sold a few too.

This one I bought at a yard sale for $150.  It's "only" 25yrs old though.  New it was about $600.

7 speed planetary hub & a nice comfortable seat for my old man ass.

I have seen, thought was appropiate for some people and then had to work on them.

WORKING ON THEM WILL CHANGE YOUR MIND REALLY QUICK WHEN YOU FIGURE OUT THAT HALF OF THE STUFF IS JERRY RIGGED CRAP BECAUSE SO MANY OF THE PARTS ARE PROPRIETARY ONESY TWOSEY, PRICED HIGHER THAN SOLID GOLD OVER ENGINEERED, NOT MECHANICALLY FRIENDLY SHIT!

OK, rant over.
