The Model 45A was a battle rifle / light machine gun developed by the United States Army in the Philippines in 1945. The weapon existed in prototype or mockup form, but never entered production. The rifle was sparsely documented until Tom Laemlein encountered a number of annotated photographs of the rifle in the archives of the United States Army Signal Corps. The Model 45A was used by local Filipino troops under the Philippine Army and Constabulary units during World War II and Post-War Era.

46 came the Sieg.

And here is an extra something to snack on.

John C. Garand developed a Cal. .30 bullpup called the T-31.

Guns?  In my GD?

I'd never heard of the Sieg or the M45.  Fascinating.

You can Google it and read more than I can tell you.  I first found out about it in Scott Duff's book on post-war M1 rifles.  One of the pics in the book is of the Old Man himself shouldering the rifle as depicted in an above post.

Garand and SA were really forward thinking back in the day in the way they developed advanced concepts in small arms technology.

I think it was Small Arms Review that had a short article with pictures of the Model 45 a couple years ago. I agree that it's most likely the rifle was only a non-firing mock up. None of the pictures show the rifle firing or even a good enough view to see if there are any working parts. No one has found any other documentation on the rifle, as far as I know, and you'd think there'd be something out there if someone really designed a firing version and not just a mock up.

What in God's name did that K31 do to deserve that?

And typewriters didn't have spellcheck

How much have you actually played with one?

I wouldn't consider the Seig a 'bullpup' at 36".

If you check Brophy's Book of the Springfield you will see a bullpup '03.

Yeah, that blew my mind when I saw it. It was supposedly developed by (then Col) Patton.

Here's a thread on another forum where the *current owner* of the rifle posted some pics.

I played around with these in a cop shop a long time ago, and was not impressed.

Mel Tappan was really big on that High Standard Model 10.  Back in the late-70s it was pretty cutting edge.

One of the mods here has one, IIRC.
