Cool thread.
I dislike most bugs, but some of those beetles are pretty cool; I've been fascinated by them since I was a little kid.

I once picked up a large stag beetle, about two inches long, and showed it to my enthralled children.
Drawing from my memory bank of nearly infinite entomological wisdom, I explained that those "scary"-looking mandibles were actually quite harmless, and were used simply for show; to attract mates and intimidate rival males.
My children listened intently.  As did the beetle,  just before it clamped down on the end of my index finger, about a half-inch from the tip.  I swear the mandibles each penetrated the bone and touched each in the center of my finger!

I screamed like a woman and hurled the little fucker across the room in a stream of my own gushing blood.

Come to think of it, I don't really care for beetles all that much afterall...
