This really surprised me: Don Adams AKA Get Smart

Don Adams (né Donald J. Yarmy) (1923-2005) USMC 1941-45 WW II. Enlisted in the Marine Corps and assigned to 3rd Marines. Participated in the Battle of Guadalcanal and was wounded by small-arms fire. Contracted malaria and blackwater fever and spent a year in a Navy hospital in New Zealand. After recovery served as a Marine drill instructor. Best remembered for his role as secret agent Maxwell Smart in the TV series "Get Smart”.

"Participated in Battle of Guadalcanal and was wounded by small-arms fire..."  Hard mofo and former drill instructor as well!

Triage d to the dying. When discovered, his answer was Don Adams. "I'm not dead.......yet"

Wiki says 4 years in 25th ID. No Regiment time, and his service seems turbulent so I doubt he was tabbed either.

I didn't see Johnny Cash:

Cash enlisted in the United States Air Force on July 7, 1950. After basic training at Lackland Air Force Base and technical training at Brooks Air Force Base, both in San Antonio, TX, Cash was assigned to a U.S. Air Force Security Service unit, assigned as a Morse Code Intercept Operator for Soviet Army transmissions at Landsberg, Germany where he created his first band named "The Landsberg Barbarians." He was the first radio operator to pick up the news of the death of Joseph Stalin. After he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on July 3, 1954, he returned to Texas.
