Yeah I know shotguns suck, 5.56 is better. But humor me.

What's the best way to put a light on a Mossberg 500?

I'm leaning towards this: and using a Streamlight TLR1

Also like the looks of this:

http://www.mountsplus.com/AR-15_Accessories/AR-15_Scope_Rings/SP-001-88850-ZSM.html

I know about the Surefire forearms but I really don't want to spend that much and don't care for the looks of them that much either.

Intended uses, Home Defense, camp gun, late night varmint patrol to chicken house.

Magpul forearm...easy and cheap and better/easier use of the light IMO than a barrel clamp.

Sure fire just introduced these new wiz bang 500 lumen forearms so you can get the previous 200 lumen LED version cheap.

Before the Magpul forearm came along the Surefire forearm is really the only effective solution IMO. I have an older Surefire on my 870 I bought used that I like but I think new they're ridiculously overpriced for what they are. Look on eBay or the EE here, should be able to find one for half of retail.

I like the elzetta linked to above.  It is light weight, robust, and cost effective.

Have also used this one: http://nordiccomp.com/retail/shop/barrel-clamps/nc-shotgun-tube-clamp-wrail-for-mossberg-590-835-930-spx-935/  It is also a good option but you still need an additional light mount and it ends up being considerably more $$$ than the elzetta.

ETA: the elzetta costs $39 with Amazon Prime.

I've used the Elzetta. Works good. Just make sure you have a light that will handle the punishment of 12g

I have a CMD Gear BMT, the threads have steel helicoil inserts so you don't have to worry about stripping out the aluminum threads.
