Ha! I never noticed that. I was always too busy bitching about trigger discipline to notice.
I noticed it about the 10th time I watched the movie.
I had one of those when I was a kid.
Its a metal/plastic prop gun made by the Model Gun Corporation of Japan. Functionally, it operated to look like an AR/M16. But the mechanization was totally different. Here are some examples. The return spring for the charging handle/bolt was a spring slipped over a rod where the gas tube would be located (the rod didn't go all the way to the FSB, btw). The barrel was solid and the sights not adjustable. the magazine release worked per norm, but the mag was a different size (smaller than a real mag). it had a bolt catch, but i can't remember if it functioned. The forward assist was a screw that held the upper and lower together (obviously), and the front take down pin was held in place with c-clips.
Anyway, it was a cool toy as a kid. And, of course, mom got rid of it when I left home for college...
