What Make?
What Caliber? I have no clue |

For what?
The Ruger Vaquero is the most used pistol in Cowboy Action Shooting because it is tough as shit. .38 is more popular because it is cheaper to shoot. If you want something more authentic, get one in .45 Colt. |

cap-and-ball: LeMat
cartridge: Colt SAA in 45LC If you want a LeMat, I think Cabellas has a repro they sell exclusively. For a SAA, go with an Uberti. |

back then:
Colt Single Action Army .45Colt new/ reproduction: Ruger Blackhawk .357 |

I have the original pair of Old Model Vaqueros in .45 that I started CAS with and two pair of SASS Vaqueros in .357 If you want a replica of a Colt SAA, check out Taylor's |

Colt 1911. It was in the movie McKlintock, so it's a cowboy gun.

I wanted a USFA SAA Custer battlefield edition but never got one before they quit making real guns for those stupid little zip guns.
One was listed on gunbroker recently, and maybe its good I didn't ever get one because the finish is not what I saw advertised, which was a distressed metal finish to make it look like 100 year old blued worn away and lightly pitted. It still looks nice but no different than new. I am waiting for a 7-1/2" Colt SAA in 45colt. I also saw a traditions SAA copy at the NRA exhibits. It had a nice distressed finish, especially for the far lower price than what a colt or collector USFA one would sell for. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=415347927 |

For authenticity Colt. For something that will out last your grandkids; Ruger.

Cimeron used to sell a slightly higher quality Uberti. Newer Rugers have a smaller frame (more correct) than older ones. I don't know where Beretta falls into play.

Do you hand load? I wouldn't even want to buy ammo to feed a 357 at factory ammo prices, 45 Colt would be even worse. That would also influence my decision, if you hand load I'd rather have an old Vaquero over the new smaller framed Vaquero.

Bisley Super Blackhawk, you can even get it in 45LC (but I prefer 44 mag).
But that's a revolver, not a pistol. |

It's so much fun to shoot that I started casting round ball to feed it. |

Damn it. I need an updated photo with my holster and belt.
OP, be warned, after you buy this pistol, you will start purchasing expensive leather goods at an alarming rate. |
