While watching the news with so many French LEO searching for the two POS, reminds me of Boston. Is it tradition that they wear the full face shield, versus US LEO who wears goggles?

Any advantages to either or?

Well, one will stop most pistol rounds, and the other one won't, so there's that....

Ballistic face shield.  Stops 9mm/.40cal.  I was issued one back in the day and have it laying in the bottom of a closet somewhere.  Probably a good idea for stopping bullet, but a horrible idea for your neck.

The French really like the bullet resistant face shields. GIGN is well known as using them. They have even procured stocks for their MP5's among other weapons (made by B&T as I recall) specifically designed to work with the face shields. It's not really popular with the professional face shooters on this side of the pond, but I suppose it has it's advantages and it's not like GIGN et al dont have an impressive record of doing bad things to bad people effectively. So I dont know that I can criticize their love for them either way.

How does it work with a rifle?
Or is not meant to?

You can make it work.  I had an MP-5 assigned to me at the time.  Iron sights were a no go so I put an Aimpoint with high rings and B&T mount and it got the job done.  I had to shoot the MP-5 with a CQB cant, but I just adjusted for offset.

Face shields are fine if you don't need to aim.

My guess would be French given the revolver, but I'm not sure. There's no z in the French spelling of police and some German SWAT units use the S&W 13/65 series of revolvers.

You ever shot the G36?  Not being able to use the sights doesn't really matter.

What's in his leg holster? Looks like a revolver with a light at the bottom of the stock. Never seen a European LEO with a revolver.

I've seen one of those shot before (referring to the super thick face shield used by GIGN and not those thin ones you see in the above examples)

It has two layers of protection. The first one shatters away when hit by a bullet and there is a second layer that stays intact to prevent the material from flying into their face. I'm not sure if the second layer has ballistic protection.

Those face shields protect against pistol calibers. The Russians have a face shield which protects against rifle calibers, but it's very heavy.

It's not uncommon, especially for SWAT teams.

The Frogs use Manurhin MR73, the Krauts S&W of some sort, and the Norwegians used to have S&W 27 in the good old days.

Not a hijack, but, what is with the dual thigh and chest pistol rigs some of those guys are carrying?  Doesn't look like the thigh rigs are tasers/"non-lethal" configs...

Luc Besson syndrome?
